hi geeks :D

I own a few xbox games, so far I only back up the decent ones.
I bought red dead redemption (at long last) and decided to back it up.
after burning it to a DVD DL+R i played it twice from the burnt disc and it worked fine.
After that i haven't played until today (3 days after)
Now when i try playing from the burnt disc , it only displays a large xbox 360 logo.
It now identifies the disc as a DVD.
So how can i fix this problem? I dont want to burn it again because it was already working earlier.
The disc is in brand new condition, all my other original games still work fine and the handful of backups i've made also work fine. Just not red dead anymore.

help please :D

Weeeeel, what you are asking for is not legal, so I expect this thread will be gone soon.

Why cant you just reburn your "backup" from the files you downloaded? optical discs arnt exactly reliable and the drives in xboxes are pretty crap anyway.

its a "legal" backup of games i already own.
i havent downloaded any part of anything.

im unfamiliar with ssv2?

thanks richms ill try re burning it to disc....seems stink to have bummed out after about 1 hour of usage.

I have never been on xbox live so I believe it's not been banned.
I only have an offline account and no Internet in my room.
I'm the only user so I'm 110% sure it hasn't been online

It doesn't matter what you disconnect, the NAND is used as storage for anomalies, and will be transmitted the second it can connect to their servers. You don't have to sign in either.

pretty much your xbox is banned in a sense. the moment it will connect to the internet, NAND will transmit data and your xbox will be banned within 24 hours.

To get the latest dashboard you are going to have to connect to the internet someday.

Do whatever you want to do man.

You can tell yourself that the backup is legal all you like, while you may be covered for the making of the backup, the changes to get it to boot violate your license for the game and the xbox, so you are as good as banned.

Why back up something you own? Seems totally sus to me as there is no point other than "borrowing" the original or playing it in 2 consoles etc.

Well the OP has said he does not connect to Xbox live at all so he will not get banned however by stating he has backed up his disk tells us two things.

1) That he has a kreon flashed dvd drive in his pc. (the only way to read a xbox disk to make a back up) Otherwise the only part of the disk he could backup would be the very short video clip that states he has put his xbox game into a dvd drive and that it needs to be inserted into a xbox to play correctly.

2) is that by saying he has played his backed up game he has as good as admitted he has a modded console and that by doing this he has actually broken the terms of use of the console which is why people get banned from the online service (for breaking terms of use).

Now I do not pretend that i agree or disagree but the point is that it is illegal to make backups of Xbox games whether you buy them or not You are only buying the right to use the game/software on their system which by buying (the console) you again have to agree to the terms of use. These strictly forbid you from altering certain aspects. Such as making or playing copies (regardless of how you get them) modifying the consoles dvd drive even if your intention is to modify the drive to allow use of games purchased from another region (eg Japan or USA).

I actually think it states on all games that copying is forbidden (however i do not have a game right in front of me at this time so may be mistaken but don't think so).

The thing is, contract and license violation isnt nessecirally the same as illegal.

There may be copyright violation in the modding of the console - that was one thing MS used to get the preflashed modchips for the old xbox pulled from sale.

But the copying of the disc is not nessicarily since there is some legal protection for making a backup of computer software. Then you have to look at all the cases in the past for other consoles etc.

In anycase, it is a TOS violation so goodbye live...

Hey billgates I don't think I'm banned as such, my other backups work fine and all the originals do too, it's only street fighter 4 that has stopped running. Also I dint have wireless or an Ethernet cable plugged in, and never have so it's impossible for it to go online?
I just updated from red dead when I bought it

If I was a user like you - i.e. not an online gamer i'd be DEFINATELY looking into getting a Jtagged xbox - they're rare because they need to start off with a specific bios - but you can play direct off the HDD (so no dl-dvd burning) and it's cracked wide open. makes one helluva media center =D

Wouldn't it be better to get a bigger hard drive and then use the built in facility to copy the game to the hard drive? You still need the disk to start the game, but that's a small price to pay for making the hurricane noises from the xbox stop ...

I'll confess now that I'm not seeing the point in having a "backup" of the disk - the original disks are pressed, not burnt (so bitrot is not applicable).

In theory, as the game is licensed to you, not sold, then you could argue that the license has no expiry date, therefore if the disk fails, you should be able to get a replacement disk (either free or for the cost of the media) ...

So far, the only disk I've had fail on me was a second hand disk that looked fine, but would not load correctly ...

Kudos goes to Monaco - given 'licensed' material, this, IMHO, the correct way

Yes - that's the only reason I can think of for making backups, too - it seems to me that this is the only purpose for a modchip too ....
