Best Cinema in Auckland?

Hi Folks,

I don't normally go to the cinema (because I like my blu-ray player, and friends), but I'd like to go and see Inception this week.

The last cinema I went to was in Botany Town Centre, to watch Avatar in 2D. The picture was TERRIBLE. (I swear it wasn't a 3D screening with me forgetting the glasses :-)

How do the Manukau City Centre vs. Sylvia Park vs. Botany vs. Highland Park screens compare?

Obviously I've got an east/south leaning, but is there somewhere else that I should be looking for a decent picture?

Event Cinemas in Albany is pretty decent.

I hear Sylvia Park also has excellent screens/gear.

Hoyts at Sylvia park is pretty good in terms of the big cinemas in the south and east of the city IMHO. Never made it to a bean bag screening in the half pipe but seats are good in the screens I've been in none the less. Never really enjoyed what are now the Event cinema's apart from the smaller screens in city one on Queen St.

Some of the smaller "art house" cinemas are good eg the Lido but then your limited by the films that are shown sadly. They usually have a good cafe and you can take your food and drink in...

Stay away from the bean bags. Spent half the time trying to find my "space" in them. Good for your lounge, but a bit distracting when you're in a bigger room.

+1 Sylvia Park.
Huge screen, big seats with lots of leg room.. Double wide armrest every second seat.
Best cinemas i've been to for a long time.
Most recent was queen st, very crap indeed, tiny screen, smelly and gross.

When in Auckland, the only Cinenas i go to are syliva park (normally the big screen) or IMAX!! For sheer 3d expereince, IMAX is mindboggling although serious maintanance and a tidy up is needed in the complex.
