I sold an old pc case on trademe and shipped it from Auckland to Wellington. Id packed polystyrene pieces and thick folded carboard into the box so the case wasn't touching the inside of the box, marked it fragile and which way was up.

When the buyer received it he said it has been damaged (def wasn't before) and that two of the prongs which hold the front of the case on have been snapped and now the front kinda swings off rendering the case pretty much unusable

He said there is a dent in the box that corresponds to a dent on the case so they've obviously thrown or dropped it a decent distance.

Is there anything I can do? I have a tracking number and receipt and the buyer says he can take photos or couriers can come and look at it if they want. It's not an expensive case but neither of us want to ship it around anymore.

Thoughts?

Why not contact NZ Post Customer Service and ask/complain?

Yeah ring 0800501501, they are helpful, quote the tracking number, your details, the receivers details and contact phone. Has to be you ringing them, they don't accept Receiver claims, i tried a few months ago. They resolve it very fast in my experience if it's NZ Post.

If it's NZ Couriers however they are useless, as long as the parcel was left at your door or signed for, they won't accept the claim as the courier will always say they've definitely delivered it and remember the delivery(even if you weren't home)...Fastway even more so, they just send you in a loop

Edited(accidentally said Fliways, meant Fastway)

I work for NZ Post / Kiwibank, its not a problem, just call them & explain what has happened & lodge a claim. As long as the item you sent is covered by the service insurance (parcel post has a lower limit than courier) you should have no problems.

If you labeled the item fragile, then NZ post should not have accepted it as they do not offer a fragile service.

Marking it fragile was a bad idea. You might find they reject any claims because you marked this on the packaging.

All you want to know is clearly listed on the NZ Post website
