My current Beltronic radar detector is on the way out, what's a good replacement for it (suggestions of suppliers would be good too)?

Have a look at a few images of the results of a high speed crash.
Register your vehicle in your partners name, so they get all camera based infringements.

(Does that count as telling him to slow down?)

Yeah was going to say that. The V1 is an old design (however still good) and overpriced. I have a Bel 985 that I bought about 7 years ago still going strong and back then it was very comparable to a V1 only about $300 cheaper. You should be able to get a good Bel or Escort for around the $500 mark, although I do admit being out of the loop for 2-3 years. The top of the line Bel and Escort are both pretty much of a muchness so I guess it is only price that can set them apart. Stay away from cordless ones and any uniden or cobra, they are very average.

I paid 400 for my V1(Latest version as of 3-6 months ago) & i saw one recently that had a $450 buynow / $1R on trademe.

V1's are the only radar detectors that tell you what direction the radar is in etc...

Sounds like it was stolen.....

It's obvious to any thinking person....and pointless mentioning for those who don't.

Or parallel imported!

Don't buy from either trademe or parallel importers, they are unlikely to be the NZ spec, and will not work properly.

There are no NZ specs it's all marketing BS.

Infact the ones marketed as "tuned for NZ" are infact not what you want as the new speed cameras now use k band. Prior to last year "tuned for nz" meant the k band was disabled.
Just dont buy very cheap as its likely to be stolen.

Depends on your budge if you want top of the line Go with the Escort Redline or the Beltronics Sti.
In my opinion the Valentine has to many false alerts and the display is hard to read you got to look at all them little led lights.

The Escort Redline is the best as its good at picking up the low powered K ban speed camera's. It's also really good at picking up Ka 34.7 Witch is what the Stalker radar transmits on. This is the radar that the police use in there Patrol cars.

I Also Recommend a Laser Jammer The laser interceptor is the best at the moment and yes they do work.
check this out.

I own the escort 8500 X50 blue display as that's all i can afford at the moment i brought it off www.radar2go.co.nz it works very well. here is a video of it.
