Basically, I'm looking for a 500W halogen floodlight with infra red sensor. Found a bunch of dodgy looking cheap ones at Bunnings etc., but I'm looking for a quality unit that's going to last.

Any recommendations would be most welcome.

The one with the knightrider lights has outlasted every other one I have had. i have the one with 2 75w halogens on it, but they do a 500w one as well.

Seems to have very good temperate compensation, unlike the $10 ones that become blind as on a warm night, or if I tweek up the sensitivity it to work on a warm night come on all the time on a cool night. Securimax import them, cant recall the actual brand on the box tho.

edit: yes I can, trinity.

Halogens will get to hot. They will continuously blow.  LED would be a better option.

knightrider lights, is that a brand of bulb?

The trinity floods look like what I want.

Is there any way to buy directly from securimax?

An LED solution with comparable output is going to cost a small fortune. :(

Buy decent lamps and that wont be a problem. LEDs are hopelessly dim unless you spend a moderate fortune on them, and IME the retrofit LED lamps are very poor value for money. A sensor lamp isnt on much, so putting a more efficient lamp on it is a false economy, much like spending heaps on insulating a holiday house etc.

Oh, yes. To deter 'prowlers' apparantly. :)

So how did you buy it? directly from securimax?

Mitre 10 mega sold them when I got it. Was annoyed at replacing the $10 ones so just went for the best they had (read most expensive) - 5-6 years now and the powdercoat is going a little chalky but its still working fine. As the others die I will get more of that one.
