Our warehouse has just relocated and we are in need of new benches. The ones we used at the old place were just pine benches but the boss wants a more upmarket look now.

We need the benches to work on computers and general IT stuff so they are standing height benches etc.

we have had one "office furniture" mob around to quote but the quote came in over 3k so the boss wasnt thrilled.

Can anyone recommend anyone that can do what we need for a reasonable price? we are in Christchurch.

I have googled etc but cant find anyone other than "office" furniture and thats not really what we are after.

I have seen some places use the framing from shelving cutdown as the support for a bench, but I think that would come in at about the same price, as when I last looked at the prices of industrial shelving it was insane.

My boss wants a bit of an upmarket look so he has told us to look away from pine benches and probably steel racking frame benches (if this is what you meant?) would be the same.

Why does that not surprise me :),  bosses wanting something upspec, but baulking at the price.

What is the total bench length that you are looking for? Also what is the weight loading likely to be?

3K could be quite reasonable , or it could be highway robbery :)

without going into it in too much depth :)

This is what was quoted on.

please bear in mind that i didn't do this originally, i have just seen the quote. For what we are after 3.3K may be reasonable. Its just that the boss doesn't think so.

L shaped desk w:0.8m by l:1.8m square by h:0.8m approx (sitting height) (we can probably grab this off trademe for next to nothing but they also probably want it to match the rest of the benches)

Long table w:1.0m by l:3.4m by h:1.0m approx (standing height)

Long table  w:1.0m by l:2.4 by h:1.0m approx (standing height)

Long table w:0.8m by l:4.0m by h:1.0m approx (standing height)

2 x office chairs suitable for standing height benches.

The weight they would need to bear would be no more than 100 kilos max i would say.

Ok maybe 100 kilos load is an underestimate.

But they would obviously have to be sturdy as they are workbenches afterall.

900mm is standing height normally.

Seems reasonable if they are all bespoke items.

Anything custom is always far pricier than buying something stock standard, especially with furniture.

Go get prices on kitset kitchen benches - I think they are around $300 (maybe a bit cheaper) for 3.2m. It wouldn't be hard to knock up some framing to look nice underneath them. Could even get some kitset kitchen cupboards/drawers for storage underneath.
