I believe it will involve monitoring the SMS queue, updating the site, etc from a central Wellington office.

Yep you're volunteering to help monitor the SMS queues and turning the sms messages into information for the Google Crisis web site.

For those of you on the ground in Christchurch you can TXT 5627 for free (from any network) with Earthquake information on what services are up, down, location information etc.

You monitor the SMS queues and filter out rubbish vs. facts. You update facts onto the site. There is some minor training and then you get given a username/password. You can do this from home.
