I was curious about how councils notify house owners of planning or activities impacting ratepayer residences. 

Recently, a commercial company dropped a letter into my mailbox regarding some zoning changes which affected me - which I had no idea were being passed either. 

The council seems to rely on using newspaper public notices , and because I do not read the print version of local newspapers I miss out on this information. 

I find it strange, how a commercial company notifies me of these changes by mail, yet, the council who are making these changes does not. 

Then, I thought, wouldn't it be great if the council could send out notices via email. I assume most people who own a house would have email so this would be very easy to do. 

Maybe a business opportunity for someone?
