I have a sim that I no longer want to use, it is a prepaid. Is it possible to have the carrier disconnect the number? I presume I just go into a store to get it done?

Take it in and ask - or pick up the phone and call the telco and ask.

Being prepaid they may just say "destroy it".

leave it in a drawer. after 12 months of no activity it will be disconnected.
