Okay, does it bother anybody else that for every TV2 ad for Chuck they use the word Chuck in place of the F word? it may have been funny once but it's just ridiculous now - it's the 5th ad to use it.

The whole program is 'tongue in cheek' so I guess it fits with the general nature of the show. Yes I hate it...I wish they would just say the F word and be done with it...much more fun that way, he he.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

I don't think they watch an awful lot of tv to note down the bad bits, I think it's that TV now has so much 'bad bits' in it...rife with slutty behaviour that's shown at the wrong times.

How I wish there could be a member's bill passed that only allowed them to advertise a program on or after it is due to be shown, e.g a program that's on at 10pm can only be advertised after 10pm.

Yes, I know, whinge & whine, but some of us have kids and don't enjoy watching ads full of sexual inunendos (spelling?) at 6/7/8pm at night.

And yes, I do vote with the remote! That's why we watch more DVDs with the kids than tv.

Ok off my soap box...now.

You're not being particularly soapboxy... In fact I like your suggestion of advertising shows only after their time of day playtime ... Perhaps with a modifier that G or PG shows could be exempt from this (So you could advertise a late night sports event or gardening show for example...) Nice idea though.

To be completely honest, yours is almost the only sensible suggestion I have seen in the argument about 'filth' or immoral content on TV.

Anyway, your reciever will have parental control options, set them to G and never have to see this stuff again, or go ask your parent for guidance about what is on. Dont try to force your moral standards onto everyone else, otherwise you are exactly the same as that lame parents television council in the USA

I was told by the BSA that they can show any type of show but the content of the clip must not be regarded as offensinve. However, the tv station itself decides if it the clip is offensive or not.

Not trying to force my moral standards, thanks, but I shudder at what kids can watch at 7pm these days.

My receiver does not have parental controls. We just watch television, and less and less lately, which isn't a bad thing! I can't see why tv stations see the need to normalise sex on tv, like it should be being shoved in our faces? That is moral standards though I guess :)

Hmm, all mine have options in the menus for what ratings are allowable. Not tried them out as I have no reason to limit what I can see, and even windows media center has some options (again untested), Thats a couple of DSE ones, a home cast and another cheapie freeview one that I installed for a relative. Inbuilt ones also seem to have the limit adjustable.

I know the ones on a sky box are really annoying with them forcing pin entry at certain times of the day (apparently a BSA requirement I can find nothing published to back up and sky wont provide)

The worst thing that could happen is that it becomes more like the US where there are just some simple words that they cannot use on the air. That is 1930's backwards censorship crap right there. If you want that sort of thing then you could always relocate to a country which ironically gives its broadcasters even less free speech than NZ does.

Read what he said properly... He's upset with being ambushed by sometimes very adult themes and materials during ADS or PROMOS which could be playing in the middle of a show about kittens at 6:30pm on a Saturday night!!!

I'd love to know what technological option you have for addressing that... Please don't say he should record everything and check it first, or should timshift everything by 3 minutes so he can hit a 30 second skip button the split second he notices a promo for something he chooses not to expose his children to.

I havent seen any things in kids shows that are inappropriate ever. I was told that all ad's in programs must meet the standards for the show that they are shown in.

If that is not happening then clearly there is a problem, but to me it is all working fine and the ad's for more interesting shows only screen within shows that already have a PGR or AO rating.
