Hey guys,
I want to paint the plastic front of my computer case a fresh silver color (It's a faded yellow/white color now). From what I've researched, it seems I need vinyl dye to do it. Does anybody know where's the best place to get this? I checked Super Cheap Auto and they didn't have it, Mitre 10 Mega had it as "Vinyl Color" which seems what I need, but only in black (At about $20), and I'm looking for silver. So, where would be the best & cheapest place to find it in silver?

Bunnings have it in a few colours, I got mine in red for a case I was modding, round 15-20 an aerosol can

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

@jilliann thanks, but they're in ChCh and from what I know, you can't post this sort of stuff

Bunnings sounds like a possibility, I was at mitre 10 next to that store today but didn't think they'd have it. Should have checked. Thanks :)

And one more thing, do you need to do more than 1 coat of it or will 1 suffice?

Will it just spray on and go, it simply colors it so there won't be any lumping or uneven-ness right?

And will 1 aerosol do for a plastic front of a case (I don't think I'd need more but just worth checking).

If its silver, then its not a dye, but a pigment.

I had terrible results with trying to dye a PC case, the plastics for the front were actually all very different and had differing adsorbtion rates - ended up just priming and painting it.

Yeah, I've only used black and red, which don't seem to have the problems

For silver, I'd paint as you have, did you use plastic adhesive promoter for it? Or just Tamiya plastic primer?

I got some primer from the car paint place that I got the topcoat from. They do the tint and put in a spraycan for you. I had no idea what the plastic was, I think polystyrene, but what they had seemed to work just fine to etch into it and stick
