So, how many of you have gotten that out of the way? I might go do it this weekend with any luck. Was going to do it next pay day but realised that its the Thursday before Christmas, which is too risky. Haha.

If you have a list, what is it too?

Finished already! :) Quite proud of myself this year, usually I leave it till the last minute. Every gift except one was ordered online and shipped to home with many stores offering free delivery which was handy (JB Hifi!). Waiting on one gift to come from China, ordered around 2 weeks ago so i'm hoping it arrives in time, if not it's ok the recipient will understand how slow Chinese post is!

Only bought one gift voucher for someone this year, and it was quite a specific one. Usually I don't like giving gift vouchers because I think it is a cop out in thinking of what they want, although I understand sometimes people are impossible to find things for so it can be the only option!

I have no idea what I want myself, not planning on putting in any special requests so no idea what I will end up with, i've bought everything i've wanted this year which makes it hard for other people giving gifts!

Good luck battling the crowds this weekend Sam! I'm glad that's one thing I don't have to deal with,

Now to eat, drink and be merry!

As of about three years ago I made the decision to stop buying Christmas presents and give the money to charity instead. Frankly it seems crazy to me to be buying Chinese made plastic rubbish and giving it to someone who is going to shove it in a drawer and forget about it when there are a rapidly growing number of people in this country who are in desperate need.

I've had a positive response to this idea, and it saves me the time and hassle of getting around crowded shops.

Just dont get carried away; a friend of ours got a $45 parking ticket for parking over 4 hours at Queensgate in Wellington. To make things worse she was inside shopping the whole time!

OT, but: From the Council or a private firm?

If it's the council, bad luck. If it's a private firm, it should be challenged. They have no legal authority to issue tickets or set fines. They can claim breach of contract if her parking is outside of their conditions, but breach of contract can only recoup money lost as a result of the breach - it can't be used punitively. The question would be, did her question lose the parking company $45?

Saw a letter going around this year that suggests rather than buy all those imported goods from the main stream stores, support your local business - buy from those (generally smaller) shops selling items produced locally, or give vouchers to local business, such as restaurants, etc. Keep the money local and keep the locals employed. :)

ETA - back on topic, am about half way through the Xmas shopping. Just need to sort the bigger pressies.

Depend who owns the car park. Westfield? They have their own parking people who will issue tickets if parking over the limit..

Decided what I need to do for xmas for most of it.

Best friend: Magic Bullet blender thing. (Really really wants one for some reason ><)
All other friends: $150-200 towards a Christmas/New Years drink up.
Mum: Fuel Vouchers since she's been really helpful and taking me to work with her recently since we now work at the same place.
Dad: Voucher for number 1 shoe Warehouse since his current shoes are revolting.
Brother: One of my old phones (Android based Samsung most likely, get him into smart phones) or Xbox Live points/games or something along those lines.
Cards for everyone else.
Myself? iPhone 4 ;D Kinda scary since my shopping will ALL be done on the Thursday before Christmas :S

First year I've spent this much money. Gosh.

Depend who owns the car park. Westfield? They have their own parking people who will issue tickets if parking over the limit..

Contest the ticket you might get off,
I have twice (Work in the mall, Once I was only there for 30 min and they ticketed me the other I had forgot to pay for a day, I claimed that the ticked was an unreasonable amount for not paying $1 for parking)

Thats shocking. I didn't think they monitored it there, especially as there is so much free parking around the mall. All I think that does is says is , they don't want us spending your money at their mall in the future. I hate shopping in Lower Hutt due to their roads, there is a tiny round about at almost every intersection, and noone know their give way rules.

This year I have tried to do as much shopping online. I have noticed that the stores this year have very few good sales on. Last year there were heaps of pre xmas sales, but not too much this year, so I suspect xmas spending will be down.

Just a tip for shoes, you can get really cheap shoes from endless dot com, and these are decent branded shoes too, and free shipping if over $100us. You always want to buy quality shoes with good support to prevent foot problems in the future as you age.

Dude, I have to say (I have a strong reaction to this) if you get him that - his next pair will be revolting as well and physically could lead to permanent injury. All of that #1 men's stuff is basically just evil. About 50% of The Warehouse stuff falls into the same category.
