Ultra fast broadband is a good name for NOW, but what's it going to be called in say 5-10 years... that name will seem a bit silly. Will the next generation of broadband be called FFB (can't type full name)

At least with 2G 3G 4G... you can keep going up, but the word Ultra is pretty hard to beat.

Maybe UFB2, although I do like FFB

(Sorry, needed to take my mind off work for a while)

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

I think Telstra still markets "Next G" over the ditch despite it being current for a while now :P

And don't get me started on my copy of Office 97 with "Latest Version!" printed on the front of the box (not a sticker).

I will invent a sticker that says new, then fades to 'Not so new' after some time.

Why's it even called broadband nowadays? Why not just "internet"? It was only called broadband because it was "broader" than dial-up. Seems a pointless distinction now.

Agreed. The base-requirement for broadband would now be considered to be fairly narrow.

It's the same sort of short-sighted naming conventions that have been in the tech industry for years. Remember XT computers? That stood for X-Tended Technology, AT was Advanced Technology. It's all relative, but in an industry that moves so far, having relative definitions quickly becomes outdated.

Even the V in VDSL which is a relatively "new" tech (although it was announced around 4 years ago) is destined to have a short lived relevance.

If it results in us getting Netflix, then UFB could end up being Unlimited Fat Blokes.

If UFB is something that can be fairly continually upgraded like the international cables, then it might be something that could stick around for a fair while though.
