Jr11: Anyone has any update on which month applications are being processed by citizenship office ??

I applied in the last week of October and was contacted 3 weeks ago - 10 months and 1 day since the application was submitted (online). The email was to confirm details (name, dob, country of birth etc). Waiting for approval now.

Received response from DIA today as below. Thanks for the information & suggestion people, saved considerable $$$s there.

There is no requirement for applicants to have a current passport or travel document. So you can chose to renew the passport or not and it will not affect for citizenship application.

UPDATE: Sadly its not good news for us waiting but I thought I'd post an update for those who are perhaps eagerly waiting like I am.

Applied online: 23 Oct 2020

Email from case officer to verify details: 24 Aug 2021 (10 months and 1 day after application)

Note: my application is a standard one, nothing unusual or out of the ordinary.

Today I followed up with my case officer on what the status is of my application since its been almost 11 months since my application was submitted online. I have now been told that my application is being processed and the processing time will be an additional 6-8 months (from the time it is picked up by a case officer)! I emailed back to double check she didn't mean 6-8 weeks? I also highlighted that the time frame that was advised at the time of my application was 5-10months and asked her to confirm if she was in fact stating that the total timeframe (application to outcome) is now 16-18 MONTHS, to which she responded saying the processing timelines have been impacted by a significant number of current applications and alert level changes. She added that the time frames previously advised by contact centre staff were correct at the time, but are now out of date and have increased.

The information I received today from the DIA is not consistent with what people have posted on this forum in regard to how long it takes after a case officer picks up your file. And the time frame is not consistent with what's currently listed on the DIA website (9-14months) So I REALLY hope she's not right!

I sincerely hope this is not true; wishful thinking I know, but how can it be extending yet again? Systems are changed and supposedly improved, new people are coming/have come in to tackle the backlog, number of applications have dropped compared to last couple of years and yet this is the case. Maybe we need to reach out to our MPs to put a bit of pressure for clear answers and transparency. Or sign this petition to Parliament, maybe it does something maybe it doesn't but we can have our voices heard: https://www.parliament.nz/mi/pb/petitions/document/PET_111097/petition-of-mathewkutty-jose-mangalassery-restore-the

I can't understand the reason behind the delay. All the hard part was done already from INZ side when one applied for RV.

The vetting from MOJ and Int'l Criminal Check should arrive maximum 3 months. I can't imagine any system they can implement to detect any fraud unless they themselves will do a thorough private investigation.

The most they need to do in my opinion is just check if the applicant meets the required #s of days in NZ which can be done even working from home. Don't they keep tabs or atleast forecast how money potential applicants they'll have to process in a year so they can plan their staffing requirements.

On a slightly less related topic, I've employed a new guy and he has just finished his courses. He is on a student visa and can apply for a work visa, but until then he can only work 20 hours a week.

Apparently, IMNZ requires a letter stating he has met his course objectives or his transcripts, but his tertiary organization is being really difficult and won't provide said letter until the transcripts are done, which is nearly 4 weeks away! He can't even apply for the visa without that and then there is the time taken to process his visa request...

This is putting us in a pretty difficult situation, anyone got any ideas if there are any other things we could try?

Can you not employ him on a casual basis at 20 hours a week until then? Im sure 20 hours per week is better than zero hours a week.

Finally received my citizenship certificate in the post today! Only a week or so after the ceremony was meant to happen (and just under 12 months from submitting).

While its great moment for me Im totally staggered that they are pushing out processing even further now - it really is a bad look.

Congrats. What a fantastic moment for you and your family.

It's a pity about the negative parts, but the end result seems good :)

Congratulations - 'good on ya mate' !

Unfortunately, during COVID times, a lot of things we previously took for granted have turned to sh*t.
