As far as I can tell, you only get discounts now if you are a Club+ member.

Previously, they had Super Savers, which was a discount anyone could get even if they were not a Clubcard holder. I am not seeing Super Savers any more, just Club+ DEAL labels.

No Club+ membership, potentially means no discounts from now on.

I think you're correct, but the majority if of the discounts have always been for Club Card members as far as I know.

They are still doing SuperSaver, in fact loading the NW homepage showed one instantly, there intent is laid out on page 19 of the current North Island mailer - https://www.newworld.co.nz/mailer?c=new-world-north-island-15th-21st-june-2026&page=18-19 - they've just replaced Club Card discounts with Club+ Discounts.

What I suspect has changed temporariliy is the proportion of Card discounts vs SuperSaver discounts, in order to encourage people to jump over (or sign up) to Club+.

Our New World has put signs up on all the self-checkouts saying (paraphrasing) "You need to scan your Club+ card before scanning any items to see the discounts, otherwise they will only show up at the end". They looked like proper printed signs from a print shop, so I'd say this limitation was known before going live.

I need to correct myself. I was back there just now and the signs were actually just printed on plain paper and laminated, so these may have just been hastily done by the store after people started asking why it appeared the savings weren’t being applied.

I have scanned once at New World and once at Pak 'n Save.

Both times, I got a digital fuel voucher.

But I want the option to remove (some) vouchers before the expiry date. I cannot see how I can do this.

I only fill up once a month (typically at the beginning of a new month after shopping) and 99 times out of 100 at my local Pak 'n Save (with a 10c per litre discount as it is near Costco)

At present, I am thinking that I will scan at New World for the discounts (and fuel discounts I don't particularly want), but not at Pak 'n Save and just get a paper fuel voucher. Those vouchers I don't want I will throw away.

I do hope vouchers will drop off after the expiry date, and I do think 'Scan for highest discount' is a good idea.

Thanks for that clarification - I stand corrected. I shall have a closer look at the shelves when I visit NW this weekend.

Pretty sure Pak n Save Westgate will still issue paper vouchers, because it has an in house Fuel Station, the digital vouchers at (for instance New World Kumeu & Hobsonville) are for Z & Caltex. That is assuming I remember the pre-launch marketing correctly and they haven't backflipped.

Yet to go to a Foodstuffs store with an in house fuel station, about to this afternoon though will report back if noone else has beaten me to it.

I am struggling to see any advantage at using card at PaknSave.  It seems they are collecting a lot of information on what I purchase, times ai use the store etc, but there are no savings or points.  So it seems very one sided and unfair. Fuel vouchers can be printed at till without needing to use it so turn app dads then money in not having to print it out. At least with Woolworths system they get points that add up on each $1 spent that goes towards a voucher…. Eventually

Scanned my Club+ barcode using Supercards. There was no paper fuel discount voucher at check out.

I was told the voucher details are automatically connected to my Club+, just scan my Club+ barcode at the pump, I was sceptical.

It worked seamlessly. 👍

Looking at the offers in the club+ app they have definitely already combined previous shopping habits through credit card collected data, as I’m yet to use the app at paknsave and never previously had a PAK’nSAVE account, however it is offering all the products I usually purchase at paknsave for my weekly shopping that I would not usually buy at new world where I’d have scanned my of club card. Usually only go to new world at lunch times. The only common thread to connect my shopping is through the payment method. Scary how much data they have.

i wonder how they are doing that. Maybe linking the name in the credit card. Or whether they are using facial recognition  at the self service station and linking that to your name and account

What are you trying to achieve, they really dont' care where you live etc, paranoid big brother stuff this. Even if these things know, what difference does it make? A neighbour knows where you live so what?

My reasons are right there in their general terms and privacy policies which state that they can share any personal information they hold (including purchase history and contact information) with their staff, contractors, and any 3rd party they see fit for - amongst other things - targeted marketing.

My neighbour won't routinely bombard me with marketing material or share my contact details with whatever 3rd party they feel like for their own commercial gain. At the end of the day, I just want to buy a toast loaf, milk and a dozen eggs without all this crap, without paying over the odds for the privilege.
