umm You should not be indicating before an intersection when you planning on going straight through it. What do you expect? Indicate after the intersection.

I take it you missed the '5m' part. Possibly enough distance to complete the motion of turning on the indicator, definitely not enough for more than a blink.

I honesty can't believe there is an intersection in NZ with a turnoff 5meters after the intersection ...

Regardless. You cannot enter an intersection, with your indicator flashing and then go straight and just expect others to know what you doing. I would have put on my indicator when I was halfway across.

I still come across people who aren't sure whether it's their right of way or not. Back when it was introduced sure, but NOW? Hrrmm...

2 that I deal with all the time - Onewa and lake has the servo entrance basically on the diagonal corner of the intersection, Bottom of birkdale road has a road straight off the road after the roundabout, if you indicate left as leaving the intersection people would think you were going to turn into that road and pull out right infront of you.

Don't get your problem.
Do not indicate until you reach the exit before your one. 3 sec rule does not apply in roundabouts. Note I said in, not approaching

Note I wasn't talking about a roundabout either. But since you do mention them, the fact that nobody indicates at them either is great way to get yourself T-boned. No blinker? So you're going straight ah-BAM.

It's not that hard. It's RIGHT THERE UNDER YOUR FINGER.

Anybody driving on the roads, indicating to turn before entering an intersection and drives straight through should not be on the roads

THIS!

I get the feeling there are a lot of drivers out there who use the indicators more for themselves rather than to alert other drivers of their intentions. It's just a feeling I have...

This. The number of times I've seen people change lanes, take a turn, exit from a roundabout etc. without indicating, well, I've stopped counting.

And there are no racial stereotypes in this either (before anyone goes down that route.)

No - there are no stereotypes for this behavior at all - young, old, caucasian, island, maori, asian, other, male, female, presbyterian, catholic, jewish, islam, jedi....  it seems to be completely random! Maybe they were all dropped on their heads as babies?
