Hmm, maybe I got lucky.
Ordered a fanless mini-server 26 October. It was delivered to my rural address 16 November.
Shipping was AliExpress's free standard shipping. In my case, the item went via Singapore Post from China to Auckland and then to me by NZ Post.
Communication with AliExpress was a bit erratic. Sometimes I'd login and find I was on a Russian server. I've only dealt with AliExpress once before, and I suspect it takes time and experience to learn how to navigate the sales screens and the incessant offers of coupons.
Once Singapore Post had assigned the parcel one of their own tracking numbers it was easier to follow, and I was able to ignore AliExpress's untimely emails, such as "Your order [order #] is almost here! Your package is on the way!" -- on the day it was delivered -- and "Bad news for order [order #]! Time's up to confirm your order!" -- four days after the parcel arrived.
Worth checking your old orders and pushing out dates for non-arrived items: I just spotted that a USD$120 AliExpress battery purchase I made in July had been autoclosed as complete just over two weeks ago, so I can't dispute it. It was always going to take a while to arrive with both Covid delays and the extra hoops batteries have to go through, but I suspect I will never see it and now have no way to get a refund.
Their tracking is off. This was delivered yesterday, but status is still awaiting delivery. Also had another item delivered last week that was shipped October 16, so my orders from that time are starting to trickle in.... unlike one from the UK that was dispatched August 25.

oh man, lucky for you.. I haven't had an update on an order I made on the 21st of October since the 2nd of Nov :(
I have something ordered on 5th October, which just arrived yesterday.
Something else, supposedly delivered, yet last location was MONROE TOWNSHIP (USA?). So there will be a dispute opened for this shortly.
I am still waiting for something ordered on the 9th October to change to 'Arrived in Destination Country' . Last update was it had departed country of origin on 16/10.
Also, 15/10 order which hasnt updated since 30/10 (accepted by last mile carrier).

If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.
Anyone recently shipped with AliExpress and Fedex IP?
Also, interested in the duty and tax/GST implications of using Aliexpress for moderate priced items (around $600).

My Ali parcel sent by Fedex out of HK was returned to the sender without any notice, thankfully the sender sorted out a refund with no issues. Never had the issue with DHL, or Fedex from anywhere else.

The normal move is to ask the seller to extend the protection.
They almost always will do that for you.
The 'cheeky' move is to open a dispute on the last day of buyer's protection and ask for a refund.
So if you get the item after they have given you the refund, you can settle a re-payment to the seller (or not doing so at all)
Just to clarify, this is not cheating on sellers. Get the item delivered to you before the buyer protection runs out is part of their service.
And the length of buyer protection is already extended for COVID. You are entitled to get the refund if the delivery takes that long.

I will not contact the seller because in many cases they will extend protection even if you do not ask them to do so. AliExpress does not verify this with you. They have a system for you to request buyer protection extension, use that instead, and if not granted, lodge a dispute.
