Lias: I thought inbred morons like this were only found in America..

I guess all those rumours about southland inbreeding do have some basis in fact!

If I drank 8 Litres of water every day I would eventually die.

NonprayingMantis: I wonder if it ever occurred to him or his wife that if they didn't have a lot of money, maybe they shouldn't have 8 kids, or maybe that if you didn't smoke 30 a day and drink 10 litres of coke you might save some money and be able to afford some decent food?

If the gummint still handed out the immense sums of money they used to not that long ago to baby factory parents, they'd probably be on a winner.

I wonder what the health of the kids is like, this may end up working in their favour from that aspect.

She does not look obese or anything like that - http://www.respectance.com/Natasha_Marie_Harris/

The amount she was drinking has not been reliably established:

"Evidence on how much Coca-Cola Ms Harris drank varied. Her partner, Chris Hodgkinson, at one point claimed it was 10 litres a day, and at another point said it was five 1.5 litre bottles each day. Other witnesses said Ms Harris would drink upwards of 4 litres of Coke a day"

It seems that (in some reports) she had not eaten much in the day or days prior due to illness - this would have led to a higher concentration in her body of caffeine and other ingredients.

Cola addiction is not uncommon (yes, even among smart people).

If one good thing comes out of this - it will be an awareness of the dangers of overconsumption and the circumstances in which it  can lead to death.

Just remember she is a Kiwi and not far away in America. I hope her kids don't have to listen to the type of things being said above.

She's unlikely to be considered for a Darwin award as she's had 8 children.

My view: she abused a product and paid a high price. Coca Cola are in no way responsible for such abuse.

I am glad this person has now removed themselves from the gene pool.

After having kids its a little bit murky as to if they qualify for a darwin award. As i understand, your genetics can make a big difference if you are more at-risk to getting diabetes. So if this person had not passed on their genes already then they would definitley qualify.

She was addicted. Addicted people can't control their desire or need for whatever substance they're addicted to. I doubt very much that's how she chose to go.

"Addiction is physical and psychological dependence on psychoactive substances."

Yes she was addicted, but still, it seems that everyone around her knew she drunk stupid amounts of coke, I just cant see how they can claim they didnt know coke was bad for you.

Based on reports it seems her husband is angry about it and holds Coke Ltd responsible, her sister does not think Coke Ltd is responsible for her death.

Bad for you, sure. But I doubt the risk of sudden death was in anyone's mind. Clearly that is going to change.

mocking someone for having a fatal illness is below contempt. It's more of a indictment to the mockers. Stop it.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

At my peak of cola drinking, I'd have boxes in my room stacked to the ceiling. People would generally pass 2 comments... its surprising your not a big fatty, and surprising you still have teeth.

When others would drink beer at pub I'd drink jug after jug of coke. This went on until I got suddenly ill, quite bad, and doctor said I'd die before 30 if a change wasn't taken.

I have cut back, but still drink 2 to 3 Bottle's a day depending on circumstances.

I drink around 3 L most days, but because of my Type 1 Diabetes, it's the sugar free varieties.

It IS addictive no question of that.  I gave up once, it wasn't a pleasant experience even though I weaned myself off.

Of course a few months later Coke released a pile of old Diet Coke With Vanilla stock and I thought, "ahh, one once in a while couldn't hurt" so bought a box full knowing that it probably wouldn't be back for long.. nek minnit.

Good thing I never started smoking.

The death wasnt exactly sudden, she'd been unwell for atleast a year.

As an aside to her supidity, the NZ Herald I suspect purposely try to find fault with Coca Cola, which of course goes against all logic in an effort to stir up controversy and thereby sell more papers.

NZ Herald = New Zealand sensationalist jorunalism at its finest hour.
