Watched this last night as well via the nasa website. What a feeling, im amazed it all went right, just one little thing miscalculated and it was all over. Long live Curiosity! Considering Oppurtunity is still tooling around the craters of mars 30x longer than it was ever predicted too, we should get some good info out of Curiosity over the next few years! (its mission is only for 2 years but its nuclear reactor will power it for 14 years)
The science from this location will be revelation after revelation and I hope they can engage the public on that. It is the best use of funds possible.
Public engagement would be higher if they went for quantity rather than quality. Maybe 100 scenic locations in 300 days all in HD on large wheels and a big stick to poke things with. I'd like to see something like that incorporated into the next mission.
