stevenz: I'm always amazed how easy banks seem to be to deal with when things like this arise. (Incidentally, I think NBNZ's record was about 30 seconds after hitting the "Pay" button on some obscure asian website to buy a thing before they called me and asked if it was legit.)

Nice that you got a positive outcome.

I've had one occur almost simultaneously with clicking the Pay button before with Westpac.  I clicked the button, got a Decline notice immediately, followed by the phone ringing, with Westpac enquiring as to whether the transaction was me, and once confirmed it was, they asked me to re-try the transaction, which went through (apparently they had blocked that merchant so that a fraud rep had to be on the line with you to approve the transaction or it would decline).

Kyanar: I wouldn't bother sending a letter to the registered office - it's most likely just a single lawyer or accountant acting as their "agent" in New Zealand. They won't be involved with the company other than signing the incorporation papers and forwarding on any mail they get. It's just a shell company.

Your bank most certainly should be able to get your money back if the merchant doesn't play ball - just send them copies of the email communication and they should find the dispute in your favour.

But because they are a NZ registered company, you can take them to the DT, which you probably couldn't do if they weren't. If their staff actually based overseas, which it actually looks like it could be based in Oz based on their facebook page, then the DT hearing would be done over the phone.

RE:Groupon Extortion beyond slippage!!
Groupon put wrong date on coupon (an extra month). When coupon was presented it was rejected as the date was ok on paper but deal ended a week before so My coupon said 26/06/2013 but expiry was 26/05/2013.They said go back to groupon who said TUFF LUCK we sent a group email out about the error you did'nt get back to us in time.
I asked where was my money they said thats private Information.I am now pledging the money to Breast Cancer but will pursue it at every level as this is not right to be doing this to people like you or me.
It's bad business.
The Fair Trade arm of the Commerce Commission has a file on this now so fingers crossed.
