Stupid people vote for stupid man.

Stupid man now is now part of the parliament.

Should we have a go at Hone, or the idiots that vote for him ? (Thats the real question)

I see what you are saying here. I guess my only response is to say that MPs need a certain amount of freedom to do their jobs properly, and most people don't run the risk of being sacked every three years in similar circumstances. But with any freedom you get people who abuse it like Hone here. So, do we curtail the freedom which allows MPs to fully debate the stuff that affect us because of Hone and his like, or do we accept that there will always be a class clown?

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

I see what you are saying here. Yup fair enough, but even the class clown gets taken down a peg or two when they get out of control.

It's hard (for me) not to react when he can get away this sort of thing though. If a white politician from National had said this, how long before they got their marching orders. Some politicians stepped down as a result of spending of taxpayer money, which I consider a lot less offensive than this.

Thing is, you're always going to get one who will abuse the system. They will get theirs in the end. There's just no point being iron-fisted about the whole thing, it will only act to damage the system more than Hone ever can.

He does represent a certain type of voter who, despite my vehement disagreement with their beliefs, do have a right to be represented. The language he uses appeals to them, much as John Banks homophobic and lunatic rants used to appeal to the redneck element or Winstons zenophobia appeals to a certain type.

These people have the right to be represented and the rest of us have the right to point and laugh.

Quite true. I believe one of Churchill's (many) quotes goes something like: "A 5 minute conversation with your average voter is a great argument against democracy."

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Agree or disagree with his politics, I almost have to give him respect for having the balls to stand up so empahtically for his beliefs.

Ofcourse, I firmly believe his beliefs are fundamentaly flawed, that Maori people should be treated differently solely on the base of their race.

John Key has the right attitude with this one, NO ONE OWNS WATER, period, for anyone to claim otherwise is just plain greedy.

Lets face it, its now the ownership rights that they are b1tch1ng about, its how much more money can we extract for the benefit of the few who are at the top!

While I don't agree with much of what he has to say I also give him much respect for standing up for an electorate who actually voted him in to represent them. They being part of the population in a socially deprived region of NZ and he makes sure that they are heard (one way or another).

I would much rather listen to him, and have much more time for him than I do for the two green co-leaders, for example, who in the main spout irrational polemical political rubbish with no accountability to anyone, and who only represent that around 10% part of NZ that is taken in by that sort of rubbish, or use them to throw their vote away against because they are disillusioned overall or can't make their minds up. The woman one especially, sounds like she has just graduated from the international school of how to generate endlessly meaningless political polemic

Welcome to MMP, where your house of representatives are supposedly "proportionate" to the diverse society to which they serve.

Unfortunately I see Hone as inspiring racism and dividing people rather than bringing them together to construct and develop a successful cohesive society.

...oh and he is always good for a laugh, only thing is some people actually take him and his opinions seriously.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

This is about the 5th time he has done something completely outrageous.

It's called democracy. The people who like what he says vote for him..and if he gets enough votes, he gets elected.

He got elected. Under First Past the Post in a local electorate, too.

The bottom line is that if you don't like him, don't vote for him.

I think people who vote for National need their head read....but they obviously see value in it...(or can't see the fish hooks).

But that's just how it goes.
