I find the skill level of women developers tends more toward the extremes than guy developers. Women can do the job as well as men, if they're the right person and want to, but I don't think many want to.

A bit like primary school teachers - men can do the job as well as women, but don't want to.

Given the number of women in developer roles it is likely your sample size is far too small to give meaningful results.

Quite possibly. I've worked in IT for 10+ years though.

Shockingly, males and females are different. And not just in physical characteristics.

I don't know what it is specifically about technology and sciences that doesn't interest women so much, but that's just the fact of the matter, it doesn't interest them.

Sure there are notable exceptions to the rule (and sometimes notable because they are the exceptions to the rule), but by and large that's just how it is.

I'm a member of a flying club, we have the same "issue" a very heavily male dominated sport, I can count our female members on one hand, somewhere around 2 or 3% of our membership.

I once asked one of these female members how we might encourage more women to the sport, her reply was something like - "nothing. flying light sport aircraft just doesn't really interest most women".

Same with technology and sciences. If somebody isn't interested, then why try hard to encourage them, and if somebody is interested, they will find their own way there.
