Yeah but when the wheels come off the trailer you are up the creek as far as insurance if you have overloaded it.

Friend had a rental one shear off the axel and was up heaps for the made up damage claims for the rental trailer place, and as it was overloaded his insurance didnt want to know about it.

Regs: I picked up a cube of soil from NZLS today in a garage rent-a-trailer. I reckon I could easily have taken a cube of sand in there instead. I do have a 4WD though :-)

Sand is a lot heavier than topsoil.

If it rains that will increase the weight so best to keep it covered if it looks like it may rain.

so I took a cube of 50/50 with no trouble today. the guy at NZLS said that you could potentially take 1.5 cubes of the No.3 (pumice) sand in their trailer but the others would be too heavy and 1 cube would be the most you would take in one hit.

i'de definitely recommend taking anything more than 1/2 cube in a decent trailer with a big holden/falcon or 4WD towing though.

the sand is stored uncovered anyway, so not sure how much of a diff that will make (apart from braking distances...)

ok, there is no way you would get more than 1/2 cube of sand in the 'big' trailer from NZLS. its tyres wont handle it! one of the tyres was bulging out enough with a cube of 50/50 sand/soil mix. I pumped it up to the correct pressure and got more, but it still bulged too much.

(the garage-rent-a-trailer had excellent wheels and could probably take a cube, but their insurance waiver kind of sucks)
