Hiamie: I jumped into my time machine, and went into the future a few years and took this photo. This is how the bridge will look in a few years time from now.

nzkc: My understanding is that the northbound lanes require more maintenance because trucks are heavier travelling north. No really they are. They pick up from the ports, head north to deliver their load then come back empty.

That makes sense. Thanks.

When the old Harbor Bridge Authority owned the bridge trunks were not allowed on the clipons due to wear a.  When it became a part of SH1 it was then free for all.  I sill don't see why trucks are allowed on the clipons  because of the stress on these  lanes..

Did the movable barrier change that?

Heavy vehicles changing lanes, maybe there is safety to gain avoiding that.

Actually according to the NZTA web site, that was only while the clipons were being strengthened. Once the work was complete, they (trucks that is, not trunks - haha) were allowed back on - Strengthening Project

And how long before they realize that it's still weak compared to the main span.  When they do it will be headless chickens all over again with lots of finger pointing....
