tardtasticx: Dont give way ever when you don't have to. This is what the guy taking my test told me. I gave way to someone coming to a stop sign when I was on the main road (4 road intersection) and it didnt look like he'd stop in time. He got me to pull over and was going to fail me after i argued my point across, his reasoning was "if your car is full and you stop, a truck behind you might not and everyone in your car will die". I basically said I knew there was no one behind me (which was true). Anyway! Common sense and knowledge of the road rules will get you through fine. Stop when you have to, give way etc.

Drive as you should do normally basically! hahaha good luck mate!

edit: Clearly didnt read far enough down the page hahaha. Still stands though

Sam, no advice re when to use a cell phone in the vehicle...?Smile

As above I'm going for my full license test soon, any tips for the big day ? I'm a fairly good driver, so I've been told :) .

That is the first thing you need to get straight, 95% of people think they are better than average drivers.

Always assume you are a worse than average driver, and therefore need to concentrate harder to be average.

Do you still have to parallel park for the full licence test?

When sitting my test, my instructor told me to never go above 55km/h in a 50 zone but not to be slower than 45km/h when the conditions are good.

I've heard they don't like you going any speed over the speed limit. It can be very hard to always maintain that 5km/h window on some cars so if the car has a sports or overdrive mode see what influence turning that off or on has on your ability to maintain a steady speed.

Use your handbrake when stopped on a hill.

Learn to indicate properly at roundabouts. Very few New Zealanders do it correctly.

If you get your license in Warkworth full or restricted, they don't make you parallel park. There is a handy hint for those who loath it.
I don't understand why instructors do it. It isn't a critical part of driving and in the 4 years I've been driving I have never done it.
