I'm seriously considering buying a gun, so that next time I call 111 I can get someone to fire the gun in the background while I'm on the phone, and then see how quickly the police turn up....

or maybe just have a recording of gunfire that sounds realistic over the phone...

I am completely horrified at what I am reading in this thread. Seriously considering firing a gun to get police attention, enjoy your prison time!

Yes I did, doesn't make any difference to me, if people didn't call for non emergencies they wouldn't spend resources dealing with them through the emergency channels. The fact they even had to setup a way to manage non emergency calls because it was being abused is just so wrong.

Towing companies will deal with blocked driveways.

It's nonsense that there are no other ways, you just need to learn how to escalate properly.

calling 111 is the best way to escalate things...  Seems the system is extremely broken...

They would never figure out it was me - for instance I ring about some fight that is happening out on the street...

"no officer available sorry"

all of a sudden someone fires a gun and what do you know?  Police cars are outside!  :)

Umm NO, calling 111 is for EMERGENCIES only.  Call your police station or regional police management service and ask to speak to a supervisor, explain the issue, ask them to open an investigation, get a reference number. There is NO excuse for using 111 for non emergencies.

Reply - what is the number for my local police station and is anyone there at 2am in the morning???

" Call your police station or regional police management service and ask to speak to a supervisor, explain the issue, ask them to open an investigation, get a reference number."

WTF? really??? Meanwhile someone out there really has fired a gun and I'm still waiting on hold for my reference number...

If I owned a gun I would do it, however the chance of me buying a gun in this lifetime are pretty much zero because I know it would end up with people dead...

Say what now? If someone fires a GUN it's an emergency. If it's not an emergency and you don't get a reasonable response time, you wait like a normal human being and lodge a complain as I outlined above.

Perhaps you need to spend less time worrying about guns and read a dictionary on the definition of an emergency, but given I doubt you will, I'll define it for you here :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergency

To help you further: If you feel like life is at risk in any way, 111, if not, local police station.

Due to your careless nature or your impulse control and rage issues?

Exactly - in all these incidents there is a lot of screaming and yelling, but we usually cant see things well enough to determine what is going on. There is a chance that it could escalate to violence and sometimes it does and sometimes it doesnt...

If we cant tell what is going to happen next then shouldnt the police come and see?

Why wait for someone to get hurt/ shot before reacting? isnt it better to come while people are just yelling and prevent anything further???

In one incident there was violence and the police didn't come... to go back to my original comment - the way they prioritise is very confusing...

Generally if I need police I will call 111 - if its not important and I should call the police station, I, - like most people, I'm guessing - wont bother to do anything.

edit:  I just realised - you dont consider stopping a fight in the street to be an emergency???

I would agree with you if we were talking about cars blocking driveways but we are not! :P

In an ideal world it would be legal to kill all the stupid people, but then of course we would need to define stupid quite clearly and there's no one smart enough to do that...

Ok seriously, are you reading my replies? If you think lives could be at stake then call 111, that IS what it's for. Parking problems are NOT an emergency. A break in where the burglar is gone, is NOT an emergency. An Intruder in your house IS an EMERGENCY. Please try and understand.

I think you would have a fair bit to lose by such a law being introduced based on your postings in this thread.

Yup reading you loud and clear - I am talking about a fight or domestic violence in the neighbourhood...

If a car was blocking my drive at 2am in the morning I wouldn't call anyone - I would just smash it up myself!

and before you ask - no I'm not serious! :)
