I have some stuff, where do you live?

The opposite occurs where I live, we have people removing anything vaguely useful from the bins so they go down overnight.

plod: Ring your local council. It is classed as littering. We have this happen at work with a lockable bin. People dump stuff on top or besides it. We go through it for an address. Dump on their lawn or ring the council.

I wouldn't recommend dumping stuff on peoples lawn, as that could be classed as illegal dumping yourself, and you could always be wrong.

The police, sadly, won't be interested.

If it continues, you could always set up some sore of recording camera to establish/document who the culprit(s) are, then go and have a word with them. Just don't so anything silly that could land you in legal trouble.

Re: The CRTs dumped in the bin, I understand that there is a risk that these could see you stung for extra charges if the bin people spot them, as a number of councils now have fairly strict rules to stop these going into landfills. Hence the extra charges for CRTs at the landfill and need for separate disposal ($20 per CRT, around here anyway). Which is prob why they have snuck them into your bin.

Just as a thought - are there any names or pharmacy labels on the dumped liver medication that might give away whoever had dumped it.

I had the opposite .. a bin that magically never filled :-)

Some people just helped themselves, but a few people came and asked if they could take things .. fine by me!

Lately if I have some random object that is broken or just not used anymore I'll put it out on the road with a sign stuck to it saying "Free!", not had anything stay over night ... and a greener way to recycle, someone will always find a use for what I think is old tat.

Oriphix is the bin you ordered placed on the grass verge outside your home or on your own property?

I may have a solution to get those items placed into your bin out of there. Print out some letters and put them in letterboxes of everyone in your street informing them that if they have put their rubbish inside your bin without your permission you will take fingerprints from those items and hand them to the police unless they come and remove those items within 48 hours.

Fortunately lots of people came by and took stuff from my bin so its back down now so I have managed to put all my things in the bin *whew*

My only concern was the things that they have thrown in could potentially be illegal to throw and the bin people will just leave that in my front lawn. Which in turn would cost me money to get rid off. (the mention of CRT monitors is a bit of a concern $20 each that's $60 :(

Well I guess I will see tomorrow when the bin guys take the bin away.

Don't think so, think that because the thrid poster went off on a tangent about Police other have picked up on it.

jeffnz: sad statement of society nowadays, it would annoy me as well.

Used to get this with works bins so got one with lockable lid (smaller one) which fixed it. One time they included household rubbish with power bill so I took it to their place and dumped at front door, they were home but didn't come out as i had a couple of rather large PI boys helping me

This is why Geekzone needs a "like" button...

Illegal dumping maybe? I do know in my area that if you leave rubbish on the side of the street you can get fined for dumping, and it appears to be administered by the local TA.

You do often see council rubbish bins now full with peoples household rubbish, as you now have to pay for bags or bins on many areas. It is one of the problems when the cost of disposing rubbish has gone up by so much. We now have to pay for bins if we want to recycle paper/plastic and glass. Many people now no longer recycle in my area as a result, and it all goes in the normal bins.

Where I am there was a neighbour who had one of those but I asked whether I could throw some rubbish in there if I gave him some cash - I gave him $20 and I was able to throw a tonne of rubbish out I had been holding onto for ages. The problem is that far too many people would sooner not do the honourable thing and ask before hand.
