Main idea of OnTheMove that you set up routes are use on daily bases and if anything comes up like road works/warning or hazards on the road - you will be notified by email at this stage.
@gzt, well if you plan well ahead and set-up your routes, you'll be more or less informed if anything happens
@trig42 OnTheMove does not designed in the way to provide/state information about traffic as such, but we are looking to integrate more features and integrated data should be more or less relevant, we integrate only supplied data to us. We have mobile friendly version of website at this stage only.
@blackjack17 i'm pretty sure that google uses the same feed about traffic as NZTA.
Google uses user data from map and navigation api calls. Hence google show the average speed of vehicles travelling on the road anywhere in NZ, not just the motorways. sadly this is not 'open'.
The infoconnect api run by NZTA opens data from the hundreds of sensors on the Auckland motorway network. The roadworks feeds are not too bad, usually accurate but they do not cover ALL roadworks, infact if you look at the Auckland transport website
http://www.aucklandtransport.govt.nz/traffic-roadworks/Pages/default.aspx you'll see far more detailed data ( not currently open to developers) on local Auckland roadworks. We too have a mobile app that measures traffic speeds specific to your route but I wont promote it here at the expense of the work done by the OP.
The important thing here is that if it were not for the recent emergence of "Open Data" by the NZ Govt, none of these apps would be possible. so, good work.
