Going OT in my own thread. For any of you that spend time in the States, do you get an 'in country' sim, or stick with roaming? I started a thread in "mobile handsets" but will cast the net here as well as I am still not 100% sure of the best route to follow.

For myself, I just roam. But when I went a few weeks ago I took the family, and bought a ReadySIM from Amazon for my wife, delivered to the hotel.

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

If you're on Telecom you now pay $10/day for mobile data in the USA (fair usage applies).

"In our roaming destinations with daily data prices, we keep an eye on how much data you use each day and compare this to ordinary personal or business data usage and the way you use your mobile when travelling back in New Zealand. If you use significantly more data while roaming than you do at home, you may be in breach of this policy. If this is the case, we will alert you, and if you breach the policy again, we reserve the right to suspend your account. Roaming data is not intended or designed for prolonged intensive data downloads or uploads (including tethering, file sharing and long duration streaming videos"

If it's a short visit then it's ok to roam. Anything over five days I'd say get a local SIM. I used to get an AT&T card every time I landed in the USA but will rethink this now.

Might be worth looking at this: http://www.citypass.com/san-francisco I found it to be of great value and you can use the trams multiple times instead of the tourist once at $6 each.

The train will take you within about a 10 minute walk of the California academy of sciences (most of the walk is through the park to the entrance).

You're right I'm guessing while the boys would like some of the exhibits they are probably "too cool" to try and enjoy it.
