Really going to miss PC World. Have been a subscriber for a while now and enjoyed reading it each month.

This is the problem when a company fails to adapt. They had a pretty good forum which they should have based their business around.

My wife has started reading several tech magazines on her iPad. PC Tech and Authority (which absorbed Atomic this year) is particularly good, with a very good layout that offers something above the usual paper magazine. She's also subscribed to Maximum PC for $15/year, which sounds like a bargain to me.

It's a shame but I only really read Computerworld when it showed up at work. I never bothered with Reseller News even though it was there.

I do read tons of magazines but they're all digital. If Fairfax had modified their business to include iOS Newsstand or Zinio then I would have definitely subscribed.

And that's the real problem here - not that the readership wasn't keen, not that the writers weren't finding news, but that the owners of the local operation under invested, reduced resourcing and didn't keep up with the times.

The writing was on the wall in 2006 when they took over. First decision, no pot plants in the office. Second decision, journalists don't need cellphones.

Downhill from there.

This arvo I received the PC world at home with a messaging saying they are going to refund my paid in advance subscription :-( which prompted me to look for this forum.

Having read Mauricio comments in the link he provided, I dont agree.
As a subscriber - I dont agree its out of date or that the lack of discussion means subscribers dont mourn the closing of the mag.

For me - I was totaly unaware of the demise but I do agree with paul Bs comments that there was minimal original news investigating and rather it had become a news distribution forum.

I liked the push format of a magazine that you could sit back and be directed to current news in the NZ context without having to hunt it out.

Ok I havent got a tablet - that this might push me down that route.
I dont want to buy the Aussie mags as they dont fit well.

Ps I am a Geekzone subscriber and saw PC world as complimentary.

IDG is retiring PC World print edition in the USA as well.

On that note, new local sites are up now, based on Drupal. All links to "our other publications" go to com.au sites instead of the .co.nz equivalents.

It seems there are some local journalists though.

Our company used to get Computerworld and Reseller News for years. Interestingly we never paid for them but they kept coming. Computerworld expired then restarted a few months later finally ending the year before last. Reseller News has continued until now.

Not sure why these were sent unless it was just to improve circulation figures. Computerworld had some good articles but Reseller News was less interesting.
