She was coked out of her mind during her stint in All Saints, so there's that.

sbiddle: There is nothing wrong with her accent, it sounds perfectly normal. There is no such thing as a "UK accent", there are literally hundreds of regional dialects in the UK and in a city like London people who have lived there their whole life and live only a few miles apart may sound completely different.

I noticed from Melanie's Wiki page that she was born in Camden (East London).  I have relatives living in East London and there are strong similarities between the way Melanie talks and the way they talk.  Though I suspect she has picked up some influences from the posher areas of London where she probably lives now, as her accent is not so strong as my relatives' accent.

+1 to this.  Just because you can't understand it, doesn't mean it's wrong.
Given we've got 4 million or so here, there's most likely more people speaking in this accent than ours.

I actually think she's got the classic London "Gangsta" accent - an affectation to sound street and cool among the young RnB/Hiphop crowd.

She definitely has her moments though, when she appears wasted.

Blatt is the horsey face one ?

Who's the pink haired girl ?

If the OP thinks Blatt sounds awful, there's a TV ad for shamppo or something with some Aussie chick who sounds retarded.

Is it as irritating as the Australian girl on the Dick Smith daily deal ads? I try to make a point of not buying any products advertised with an annoying Australian accent.

The show is made to get many weak minded people emotionally connected to one contestant inorder that they will mindlessly support them by sms voting making profit.

Singing is just a sideshow between all the sop stories and background and relatives visiting who they have missed all so very much etc.

What's with the dse.co.nz website showing the one day deals down the side, but you can't click on it there?!  I takes me a while to find where they are on the damn site.  Frustrates me.

Close call but I think shampoo girl is more irritating.

What's your view on buying products hawked by OTT Pommy accents (as is the current fashion in infomercial world) ?
