khull: Perhaps is their new system that went live recently:

Except that it didn't , JBMS is caught in development hell, like many large public sector IT projects,

After a couple of days of asking why it hasn't been done, I got a call yesterday saying it would be prioritized. And checking the tracking this morning it has been released. No customs charge owing.

... only to find that another parcel from Hong Kong containing another robot converting figure has been stopped. Sigh.

Friend had a whole parcel with a lot of crappy car badges with a transformers logo stopped and held up. not sure if he got them in the end or not.

Really sucks that customs are doing this for commercial companies instead of putting all their efforts into stopping actual problem items like dangerous electrical stuff etc.

Got the parcel at home yesterday, customs opened the bottom of the box and re-sealed with customs tape
One of the items inside was opened but I am unable to know if that was customs or send from the supplier that way.

Kopkiwi: Customs take the piss some times. Their inconsistencies drive me mental.

I don't mind paying whats owed if it exceeds the amount, I don't mind it being checked or stopped, just make it level across the board.

It's like a game of Rugby where the ref doesn't understand the rules and blows one thing for one team and another thing for the other team. Then at Half time changes is mind and blows the opposite.

Are you one of the people on Boarder Patrol that complains about being stopped at random?

Customs can't stop and check all parcels, they simply don't have the man power, this is not inconsistency simply random selection.

The rules do not change, and suggesting so shows a deep misunderstanding of customs.

Suggesting that customs don't know the rules also smacks of someone that doesn't know what they are on about.
