Just to clarify, Google sync is still available with no intention from Google to end for paid Google Apps accounts, there is NO intention from Google to stop that, but simply free accounts dont supply a $ chain to feed MS to license Exchange sync as required.

Only this last week I have commissioned over 20 paid Google apps accounts to 3 different Google apps domains, no problem installing and using Google Sync to support Outlook and Exchange clients on iOS and Windows Phones.

I must be old school. Just today Outlook with POP3 was just so quick. Other than the sync, accessing webmails the sent folder or right clicking to get the delete comnand is not instant. I archive my mails for the last 15 years now. Time will tell if I switch over my primary account. My secondary account, I delete most of them but I hold the important emails for a few years ie - invoices for warranty purposes. Outlook is the Microsoft Word at work / school or home. It is the standard. It's local so I can check the email last week or last year offline. On the road, or in a foreign country. But phones aren't built for that, laptops are.
