jeffnz:

They were measuring honesty, not aggression.

Why do you find it necessary to defend National Jeff? Is this an emotional response to a perceived threat? Surely, if the study is wrong, science will deal with it more authoritatively than you or I could ever do. Why the leap to defense?

Does the study not talk about wealthy people?
Are there not wealthy people in National?
Why should we assume National is immune to the behaviors identified?

Or is it simply that I named National and not Labour? It applies to both. But I named only one. Did I do an experiment of my own?

.

If you are just trolling I could think of better ways than than what you have used. Hope you get the reaction you are after for whatever you are trying to prove.

I would have reacted to whomever you decided to use so don't go clapping your hands with joy at your first bite.

I don't troll. I don't have the energy.

I do notice when people can't answer however.

NonprayingMantis: Do you have a link to the actual study rather than a YouTube video?

Wish I did, but no sorry I don't.

If its on youtube it must be true then

If you had looked at it, you'd see it's from a UNIVERSITY. A big one.

The people doing this study also had hate mail and witless attempts at refutation. I see the pattern is repeating here.

Do I step on someone's ideological toes? Someone's pet political assumptions got hurt?

you are being particularly aggressive in trying to elicit a response from people why would you try and do that?

the parallels you are trying to draw between hate mail and here is ridicules no one is showing any signs of hate or animosity apart from yourself

n Internet slang, a troll (/'tro?l/, /'tr?l/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people,[1] by posting inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a forum, chat room, or blog), either accidentally[3][4] or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[5] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[6]

take out of that what you like but IMHO it looks like trolling

No you didn't hurt me, i just think it funny that you made a broad sweeping statement based on a you tube clip, when it seems you haven't even read the study yourself.

To see how people think.

I have been accused even by yourself of being a troll, of besmirching the pristine name of the National Party, and other vague presumptions.

Oh, the study quoted is indeed very accurate. And the reactions are indeed very predictable.

I've read the study (whats available), and many of it's predecessors. All the way back to the one in the '70's that was ended prematurely due to the abuse by one group of participants empowered over another.

I don't need convincing of the validity of this latest study.

I wanted to see what people here (a predominantly Right leaning group) would do if presented with cold, hard science that would bring into question the ethics of their ideological views.

Yes, I was literally that foolish. People here have a highly developed ability at self delusion. And that, in itself, was also covered in the mentioned studies.

Notice no one has proven the study wrong or faulty here. No one has attempted to provide similar, opposing, scientific papers. No one has even provided anecdotal stories.

Instead, I have been accused of being a troll; and being aggressive.

I have found the same reaction in only one other group: the religious.

Each to their own but I try not to go tribal and stereotype people by their political beliefs

Glad to hear it. It's too common on GZ.

I don't think it's the case of being "too common on GZ".

I think it's more the case of people around here beeing more able to argue their point of views and reply to counter-arguments in a way that leads to debate. A lot better than you see in other forums, Facebook posts and comments sections in newspapers.

meh.

This isn't news to anyone, really. I think everyone knows this is likely the case. I don't see why this is of interest either, however.

A university study demonstrates that wealthy people are 4 times more likely to steal, cheat and lie than poor people.

WOW what a load of nonsense.

If it were true there would not be so many South Africans living right here in New Zealand.

Its not the rich who stole my cars, bikes, TV's etc ...

No they just oppressed the majority of the population and then wondered why their cars, bikes and TV's got stolen.

Edit typo: Opressed not opposed.

This, as in

"you are being particularly aggressive in trying to elicit a response from people why would you try and do that?'

jeffnz mentioned National, I believe you mentioned National first. I don't feel that later stating "besmirching pristine National " goes a long way to fostering an adult debate. Troll is perhaps a little strong (so far), but you read an article, it may or may not be as accurate as you think, its better to debate it rather then live by it, until you know its 100$% accurate.

Just by 2c worth +GST

(Oh, and define rich, too)

So that gives them a license to steal?

The word I meant to use there was oppressed, not opposed.

I didn't say it did give them license to steal, but you could understand why a person may feel the need to.

It could have been your average scumbag criminal but you wouldn't have worded your response they way you did if you actually thought that.

Which brings us to the oppressed black majority. If I'd been forced to live under the same subjection in a facist state then I'd be eyeing up your TV as well.

Not sure why you have brought race into this conversation. Its got nothing to do with it.

So are you saying that they have the right to steal because they were oppressed? Not because they poor?

And you telling me that you know how I think because I worded my reply in a certain way?

There are millions living in poverty today in South Africa, not because they were oppressed (yes for some), but because they have move to South Africa from neighboring countries like Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique etc .. Never oppressed. But stealing everything that moves. Some of the most hardned criminals in south africa are from places like Nigeria, Moz etc ...

Countries like India and Pakistan (to name a few) are dangerously corrupt and unsafe. Where is your wallett more likely to be stolen? The centre of Johannesburg, somewhere in India, or somewhere where all the rich hang out?

All these places have one thing in common. Very bad poverty = very poor people. And my gut tells me that this is a major contribution factor to the high levels of crime. But hey if a bit of research says I'm wrong, then maybe I'm wrong.
