insane: Just make sure you get someone at the place you choose who seems a little older to fit them. I've been burned so many times by the younger floor staff who can't seem to balance tires despite using the digital machines.

Haha, what would I say if it was a young person: "Uhh.. Can that old guy change my tire please?" Lol!

And thanks for all the tips. Will try Tony's as it is close to me in Massey, and they have price match!

Do they open tomorrow? Actually will Google and find out.

hehe, I just choose who I approach at these places, and hang around them while they do the work and ask the occasional question. The last time I didn't watch what was happening they scratched my mags as they were is such a hurry to change them

Definitely Firestone Beach Haven - Very good guys there, helpful (and very fast at what they do) and have fixed so many little problems for me, for nothing when other places quoted $xx or even $xxx.

Take my car + company cars there and never have problems at all.

I am baffled that the tire places don't have information about the tires they sell (at least not online). I am used to consumer tests of tires and a lot more product information about tires.

I might be wrong, but it seems like the tire stores are just selling "generic tires" from their marketing at least..

The problem with tyre reviews is how much trust do you put in them. You must be familiar with manufacturers salting the internet with self promoting "independent user" reports. If you are into high performance tyres there's more chance you'll see a range of sources.

The NZ Consumer magazine in partnership with Australia's Choice magazine do tests of tyres. Usually the ones that are sold on both sides of the Tasman. Even those results are argued by other self proclaimed experts.
