I have some websites offer to bring them into NZ , are there any restrictions/fee's with importing Tortoise's?

Thanks, i saw that website but wasn't sure that $900 for a tortoise was a normal price....seems like it is.

And to think that we use to have these buggers coming into our yard all the time n South Africa.

You want exotic pets you pay to have them. Its no different than if you want a pedigree cat or dog.

$900 for someone to hand rear an animal for weeks is a cheap asking price. Quality breeders will spend huge amounts of their time caring about the animals wellbeing.

Turtle lives in the water, tortoise lives on land.
Turtle small and often bitey, tortoise big, slow, and carefree.

If you want an easy care tortoise that don't grow out of your house, look at the afghan or russian tortoise.

We had one in our family for about 30 years. They can get away from you outside and will climb small fences, so its a good idea to keep an eye on them when outside.

Inside its probably a good idea to have somewhere hot they can be during winter. We had a bathroom with underfloor heating that it liked to go to. When its cold the tortoise will get slow and it could even decide to hibernate...

We had it going where it wanted in the house. Its not a high action pet, but its a nice fellow to have around :)
