Nope, no quarantine. An export certificate for NZ is needed though. I'm a bit worried about taking her to be honest. Montreal is not a dog friendly city and has limited areas for walking dogs. Apartment living will be difficult for her (and us) but we will manage. The biggest worry is that a dog just needs to connect with human skin and it is destroyed with no recourse. Our dog is really cute and people are always rushing her, wanting to pat. If they do that over there it will freak me out as it risks her life.

I love our dog to bits and it would break my heart if anything happened. We just invested several thousands of dollars on her for training so hope this will help.

Good stuff with the quarantine issue. Geez, that's a bit harsh! Just remember not to freak out, as she will too. As you know, they know your feelings! Best of luck!

I'm wondering why you called it the "move from hell" though ? Are you dreading the winter temps there ? I think it'll be lovely! It'll be cold yea but it'll snow too! but less humid and windy. A more polite culture too! and you have the sports , and lots of tv shows are filmed there too.

It's the move from hell for me because everything has happened so quickly and my husband has had to go on ahead, leaving me to sort, pack, organise and sell up. Moving house within one city is tough enough, moving between cities is harder. Moving between countries is sheer hell, especially when immigration is thrown into the mix and everything needs to be done quickly. Most people have time to plan and organise. We didn't get that.

Hopefully I can go in a few years time.

Not sure what kind of job I'll get though. Probably not a tech job since no one wants to hire for just 1 year (but who knows.)

And not sure how i'm going to get a PR after that (may have some more reading to do).

But I'm hopeful, just gonna save up some $$ and get more experience in my job & research the hell out of this.

If you've got some PCs that you're looking to pass on, my wife might be interested. She's started getting into building and modding PCs, and she's on the scrounge for "recently obsolete" (read - old, but not too old) PC cases and parts to tinker with. We're also in Palmy, so if you're looking to get rid of old PC gear, we might be able to take some stuff off your hands...

Because she is young and gets excited so this puts her at risk of jumping up, or putting a paw on their hand, or of licking them. Any of these things are unacceptable and in Montreal are enough to have her taken off us and put down.

Border Collies have an inbuilt reflex to show friendliness with a lick on the face so its important that nobody ever put their face close to a Border Collie (google the Border Collie nip) - they just love to wrap their mouths around a nose! Experienced owners know this and work hard on training their dogs not to respond this way. When a BC is excited it may forget that training. When they are still young you can almost guarantee they will temporarily forget. Strangers bend over the dog, coo'ing about how cute she is, and put their faces close. They may be surprised with a slurpy lick across their face, or freaked out because the dogs mouth connected with them. One complaint, whether from the person involved or from an onlooker, is enough to get a dog destroyed.

In NZ local authorities may or may not treat such a gesture of liking as an attack. In Quebec, it is considered an attack. And there is no defense, no recourse to appeal, nothing - you just lose your dog.

I nearly lost a dog here in Palmy a few years ago. A woman rushed into my dog's face, going on about "cute dog" and bent over with her face right in my dog's face. I asked the woman to leave my dog alone and I moved away, but she kept coming - going on and on about the cutey wooty puppy wanting a pat (puppy sure didn't). That dog really hated that behaviour and tried to get away. In the process, my dog put her paw on the woman's hand and left a long scratch mark. It was completely unintentional and was just my dog trying to move away from a woman that had boxed her in. The woman freaked and laid a complaint. I thought I was going to lose my dog and went through hell for two weeks while it was investigated. In the end, nothing happened but I am much more forceful now when strangers approach my dogs.

People should wait to be invited to pat. They should ask first and should never, ever crowd a dog and force their attentions on it. If my dog is calm and not feeling threatened I will tell her to say hello and am happy to let people pat her, but it should always be the dog owners decision, not the passing strangers.

I've got some really old and one recently old (but still in great working order - or would be if I put a hard drive back into it) and another only a couple of years old that - again, has had the HD removed. Plus there's unused RAM and a few other bits and bobs I will be getting rid of. Once I've sorted out my gear and taken photos I will start a thread in the sale forum. Everything will be up for offers, including offers of $0 and collect ;)
