The side issues of going all nice and high def at the source is they also have to improve on the set design and make up .. little scuffs and zits that might not have shown up before are revealed in all their glory :-)
Interesting how things change, only a few years ago that the editors who choke at the thought of any lossy compression used on the video sources (can't remember how many times I had to use the words "mathematically lossless" when I was demoing our gear to the BBC, and then them making me prove it by feeding in some god awful source to see how it ended up being processed), now look at the fuzz they broadcast! (Sky is the worst!).

I think that it's time they update the studio to something more modern I've created a mock up of how it looks

Check it out and let me know what you think. Thanks

old3eyes: Pity they don't improve the quality of their news as well instead of the usual local sensationalized stuff like "Bag snatch in South Auckland. We're now crossing to our reporter on the scene"

Yep. They won't be sending a reporter to the scene any more.

Now it will be from the studio and will be a breathless announcement of "Bag possibly snatched in Auckland four days ago according to vague comment on Twitter", followed by a studio panel discussion and some stock footage of bag snatching lifted from Youtube. Before apologising for interrupting the commercials and returning us to Briscoes' faux sale ads.

DjShadow: I'd hope since they are in the mood for HD that they will upgrade FOUR to HD in the process :-)

Will never happen. MediaWorks mux carries Al Jazeera, Te Reo and The Shopping Channel as well as 3,4,C4,3+1.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Last few times I looked the shopping channel was just showing regular infomercials. Guess they couldn't handle the heat from 2 other shopping channels.

Hope the budget extends to hiring someone who knows how to light the studio too.

This past month the newsreaders have looked awful.

Almost the opposite of last year when everyone looked overtanned.

The last buliten form the full studio was on 20th of December
So I'd say from the 21st onwards is where the lighting looks bad

They may not be over tan. It maybe your TV sets contrast and other settings

Not overtanned now but back in the first half of 2013.

Now overlit, edge enhanced, awful.

Nothing wrong with my telly - a Panasonic 55VT50 in THX mode.
