Because not everyone honors them, and it can break relayed email messages (may be less relevant in this case).

Email needs a total overhaul, it was designed ages ago and is being used in a way not originally intended.

They have and it is called Facebook messaging, or replace that name with other social media messaging system, but it is a wall garden run by private companies, which isn't good.

I don't agree that email needs a total overhaul. The problem with email are the people abusing it such as spammers, but on the whole it works fine. What is needed is better policing to stop people spamming.

IMO, a few misconfigured mail servers breaking mail that isn't relayed correctly is an acceptable price to pay. The forwarding should be fixed, if nobody complains about it being broken then nothing will ever happen.

The reports of email's death have been greatly exaggerated, there's more (legit) email sent now than ever before. Care to explain what "used in a way not originally intended" means? SMTP may predate most of the internet, but it'still around now because it's ubiquitous, and deeply entrenched. It's my belief it's going to be around for a while yet.
