Ok.. after a little more investigation it appears NZ also calls them Vaporizors. You could try a pharmacy.
Heres an online link to what Im talking about.

Get into pot plants, they should act like an evaporator since they perspire through the leaves.

Time to find a new industry!

Me and plants? Nah I only like the type that the nice young lady comes with each week and changes and waters and sent me a bill every month ...they grew fine!

Two? .. we only use one for the whole house. Set it in the lounge and leave the internal doors open at night and that should be enough. Whatever you do dont leave it going in a closed room.. it will end up making everything damp and activating allergies. Two may give you too much humidity so be careful.. especially in NZ. :)

Once a month it pays to fill the water chamber with water and add a cup of white vinegar. Run it for an 10 mins (do this outside) then just rinse out the chamber. White vinegar is an awesome disinfectant and is 100% safe to use in the machine.

Do you have a slow cooker? Fill it full of water and turn it to the lowest setting.. leave the lid off of course. Instant redneck humidifier. LOL

Woah, humidifiers are the exact opposite of what you want to do - you need a dehumidifier.

I suffer from a blocked nose all year round and the Dr. said that I needed to get a dehumidifier.

Depends on your humidity. If your house isnt on a swamp and you actually heat it during winter it is quite easy for it to get too dry inside, The only reason that so many people need dehumidifiers is that there is plenty of wetlands being built on in NZ, and NZers seem to be too cheap to properly heat their houses in winter.

+1 Blocked noses may have many causes, and one is dust and too much humidity. But I guess trial and error is one way of finding the best solution
