networkn, was that Lego event a few weeks back at the Shore City mall in Takapuna? If so I run that event for them (see pics at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.639464959461316.1073741848.341137022627446&type=1)

The 5+ age restriction is due to insurance requirements sadly but we will be back at the mall again first week of the July school holidays too.

As for buying the stuff Toyco at St Lukes has the widest selection and normally has a 20% discount on most sets. Bricklink.com is also well worth checking out, especially if you want spefici parts or older sets. You can get bulk lots on Trade Me sometimes but they go for top dollar, sometimes over $100 a kg if there are good parts!

Surprised no-one has suggested this yet - with Amazon now shipping a lot of things to NZ I have 4 3-400 piece sets of basic lego (So no plans, just let the kids make what they want) in the presents cupboard ready for the Nieces and nephew's birthdays. The pricing is fantastic compared to New Zealand and they have some great sets. The 300 piece set I have was around $30 NZ? They come in great containers for storage too.

Not sure if this will keep the filters well, but this link here is all the things that should be able to ship to NZ from Amazon for Lego currently (Just need minimum $125)

Now that I'm looking there are two different sets with over 600 pieces for only $30!

Friend of mine has a huge collection of Lego.... he only started buying it a few years ago. Helped him move house at start of the year, Id swear half the truck was Lego boxes...

Never had Lego myself, had something similar that we just called "blocks" - couldnt be used with Lego.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I didn't mean to make you sound like the bad guy/girl. Was just disappointed, as I got so excited to see it. He will be 5 in July so I'll get over there again then!

No worries! It's always hard around the whole "eek, they'll eat it and choke" issue for parents who know they won't.

I think you can expect if you list lego for $20K you will have people wondering if you are sane. It's a pretty specialist set of items, and most people wouldn't know better. He could simply ignore people but he keeps responding with insulting comments.

I would too, It's not like any of them are buyers and they're only making stupid comments because it got pushed to the front page. THEY could just ignore it and not ask questions... If he doesn't answer questions, the page says "20 questions unanswered" and then the seller looks like they're hiding something.

It is trademe... half of them deserve the insults.

Big Lego fan here! Can't remember exactly when I got my first Lego kit but man I played with it for years and years. My parents still have the massive boxes stored at their place.

Until recently I hadn't had a good play with it for years but my and my partner took a trip to the States so I insisted on going to Lego land in San Diego.

Lego Land was seriously awesome, I was unfortunately a bit big for some of the rides. Apparently 5-12 year olds are their target group and not 24 lol. The miniature lands were great though, things like the Golden Gate bridge, Las Vegas strip & Wall Street all built out of Lego and are as tall as you.
They also had the biggest lego model ever made.......

Obviously it's the X-Wing fighter, it is made out of 5.4 million bricks and took 32 model builders (best job ever) 3 months to build it!!

And then there was the visit to the Lego shop where I spent far too much on"presents" and got a little crane/digger thing. I had it built the day after we flew home haha!

...can't upload a photo of it because the gallery is going a bit funny... will try later.

Thinking about this has just reminded me of the worst thing about Lego (apart from Americans calling it 'Legos'):

Walking across the floor in bare feet and standing on the one piece you missed when putting it all away....!
