I've yet to see any camera footage that gives reasonable face recognition in infrared night vision mode.

It would be nice in future to have a system that looks for faces and zooms in.

If this was CSI they would run it through the computer and have clear shots of their faces, they would also be able to read the number plate of the car they were cruising in.

Hopefully the cops will recognise the scumbags from their clothing, body shape and car.

Deffo pass on to police. I live in Wattle Downs (not far from The Gardens) and we had some people go through the open area of our garage a quite a few years ago (mostly empty drawers that had tools in them in the past). They made a right mess. Told police and found out through neighbors who had a similar thing happen to them also. Every bit of info the police have can help stitch together the bigger picture.

I am pretty sure what they did is in itself a crime "tampering with a vehicle" or something like that. Of course send to Police

The camera's are HikVision DS-2CD2332-I (3MP Turret's, IP66/Water-resistant, Separate IR from Camera Lens.. Day/Night)

I use a Synology NAS DS1513+ for data storage/remote camera viewing etc. (2 bay unit's also do this task fine) but as I run a home-based business I need the additional space.

I have 60 days of footage stored from the camera's, set to record only motion- consequently any car that goes up or down the street.
- For a busy camera (i.e Road facing) it uses around 700GB for 2 months of recordings.. and the other camera's around the sides/back etc only use around 40/100GB space. I can see when I mowed the lawn last haha.

I've actually been looking into those cameras over the past couple of weeks and I've found they're cheapest at Aliexpress:

Both seem to include DSL shipping and I've read over on cctvforums that people have used this supplier with success. They're for the Chinese market so you might have to change the language on them, the difficulty of this seems to depend on the firmware version (they run Linux and there's guides over on cctvforum).

You can get the US market ones from Amazon but they're almost twice the price.

You might as well upgrade to the DS-2CD2332-I as it's a much better camera then those ones :)

I couldn't see much difference between the two, they seem to have identical sensors and lense but the 2332 has 3-axis rotation (but is missing the vandal cover), are there any other advantages with the 2332 that I've missed?

Yes, the 2332 has a separate I.R , as to not affect the camera len's when it's going. Gives a slightly nicer image at night time.

And it's a better looking camera? :)

Thanks I hadn't thought of that, I'm going to try to find more sample night images between the two cameras. Network Camera Critic is the main site I've been using for reviews as well as various forums, it's so easy to miss a small detail that can actually makes a big difference. Dahua's started coming out with cheaper models to compete as well, so many options - not that it's a bad thing! :)

Good camera quality indeed. Btw, the server is pretty good too I was able to download at 1.5MB/s from the UK :)

I would defo report this, you have a rough description of what these hoodlums look like and a rough idea of the car they use to roam the streets. Local cops are able to use this information to their advantage if they see a similar car cruising the area at odd hours..
