itxtme: Shows how ruthless the NZ public can be, this stuff article from last week sheds some light on the realness behind the story.

Fickle and ruthless, sad. Nice he turned that ugly facet around for him and his family

I thought it was pretty good. I expected it to be a bit more cringy, and for the game play segments to be lame. Neither were an issue, and the way they mixed in real footage with acting was pretty good for a Rugby film (better done than Invictus for example).

It was a good story, and apparently Beaver had quite a bit of input. I hope he and his family are happy with it.

Also, as a side note, I am glad they did not over-dramatise 'The Kick' - I was talking with people this morning, and we agreed, if it had been a Hollywood film, the kick would have been to win the game, and there would have only been seconds left on the clock. They showed it as it happened, to get NZ 8-0 into the lead. Brought back all sorts of nervous memories...

Firstly the disclaimer, I am a long time Waikato and Chiefs supporter so have a jaundiced view of the way Donald was treated, particularly by the NZ public and media.
I liked the portrayal of the sports talkback radio announcer but couldn't pin down if it was supposed to be someone specific or just a generic character. Talk about 'anyway the wind blows'.
Right from the start of the film when they called out the names for the Waiuku rep team, Kaino, Rokocoko and Afoa was a nice nod to NZ rugby fans, as was the later mention of up and coming Keiran Reid by the Counties recruiter.
Also, a good portrayal of the drunken yobs in the stands and the foul abuse they generated. Unfortunately not at all isolated and the main reason I don't bother with taking the family to live matches anymore.
So now I'll rip it down to MP4 and send it to my mate (a fellow Waikato lad) in the UK. I'm sure he'll enjoy it as well.
On the whole I have enjoyed the NZ film series so far. The Kick gave me as many goosebumps as the Erebus film did.

Apparently 361,500 people watched it.

How do they know that?

So. 2,807,184 / 361,500 = $7.77 cost per person viewing.

So did they make a profit with the advertising?

The $2,807,184 number is the size of the NZ On Air grant to the production company. That amount is not supposed to be paid back and the production costs could have been higher.

Just finished watching. I enjoyed it, and thought it to be a well produced film. Money well spent IMHO.
I recorded on mysky, does my viewing count towards the total I wonder?

Cheers,
Joseph

Thanks. So data from 1500 people is multiplied by 3000 to get that figure. Gosh the multiplier is twice the magnitude of the denominator!

I'm not a fan of NZ produced melodramas or TV series, but I really enjoyed Sunday's screening. smile

Two thumbs up to all involved.

Finch: Anybody watching this? It isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Half the fun is guessing which actors are which players/coaches.

I have been away on holiday and missed this - anyone know of any repeats? Or has a digital copy?

Would love to see this!
