They don't seem very cheap - $3 cheaper than PB Tech for a 4TB HDD plus exorbitant tax and duty.

If they ship DHL, it's not an option.  DHL acts as import agent on stuff they ship, and charge the taxes and duties upfront.  They then pay the recipient's customs directly and pre-clear it (much faster than hitting customs, paying the invoice, waiting for clearance, etc).  The up side is that they refund any overpaid tax, and eat the loss on underpaid tax - so they have incentive to make sure they get it right.

Checked out the cost for a raspberry Pi B+, worked out $52NZD including shipping from newegg
I paid $64 from a local store including shipping just after it came out - Not a huge saving but I'd be happy to wait a bit longer for it to arrive to save $12.

Order it from RS Online, NZ$55.69 inc GST with free shipping and get it within a couple of days.  Unless the $4 saving is worth the wait of coursemoney-mouth.

Unless they produce a specific specials mailer containing only or marking only things available in the NZ store it will be just annoying and very little use. Other than that I will check the store randomly once in a while, and anything posted in the bargains/deals forum here. I anticipate it being most useful for new release products on special and old stock going cheap, and the odd crazy gadget. But without notifications...

Thought i'd start comparing prices by looking at SSDs. No results for samsung 840.
Compare the two categories - 130 in the NZ store, 760 in the USA store.

Tbh if the range is going to be as bad as this across the entire site, id probably buy local or from amazon.

Actually there is.

Its just that customs dont try & collect , not economically viable to try & collect $60 & stop/inspect/hold every small parcel posted into NZ. Not yet anyway.
However, if another company was to collect on their behalf, Im sure Customs will take it.

I have contacted Newegg, didn't get a reply. Complained on Twitter, got a reply saying I would get answers. Didn't get answers.

Has anyone ordered and had to pay duty for something well under NZ$400? Just wondering if you do eventually get it back and how long that takes.
