The above messages brought to you by the Guild of Tightarse Curmudgeons :)

Mate lives in Whitby (+$$$) and says the folk over the hill in Waitangirua (-$$$) load up the people movers with kids and head over the hill pissing oil and smoke all over the place and clean up all the treats destined for the local Nigels and Cynthias.

That in itself makes it worthwhile.

I spent $20 on a bunch of moro/pinkie/milkway etc mini bars from the supermarket.  $20 once a year, who really cares?

Kids love dressing up, ill be taking my 5yo around, he's excited, keeps asking if tonight is halloween.  I did it when I was kid and enjoyed it.

Its a long way from halloween where kids dress up for fun to celebrating the US Independence day :P

They don't even bother dressing up around here. Kids of all ages flooding into the area, knocking on doors, no costume in site. Before I started putting signs out, back when we did have sweets in the house, one lot knocked on the door and asking very loudly "aww bro, got any sweets?".

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

I'm a really annoying and boring adult. We had a few kids that made an effort last year so they got some fruit and vegetable candy type snack things that were the least sugary thing I could find for my own kids when they deserve a treat.

They would see a carrot or, god forbid, an kumara on the cover of the packet and look at me. The ones who didn't make any effort except to grab a plastic bag and head out onto the streets were offered one of the toothbrushes I bought from the $1 shop. I'm not expecting any visitors this year.

You must live near me, they used to turn up with a plastic shopping bag and say pretty much the same thing. One year had a kid say "Trick or Treat" so I asked what was the "Trick" if I didn't give them any sweets, they had no idea what I was asking :-(
