Qantas doesn't fly to provincial but will ticket it from there using airnz planes.

timmmay: Did you see my suggestion of mainfreight?

Yes, thank you. I measured and got an estimate online but would be better off taking two flights. I'm going to call them tomorrow and get an exact quote though.

Cheers

afe66: Can't be too provincial if Qantas fly there.

Try getting extra luggage on a propeller plane from a province where only air NZ fly...

I am. That's the problem.
Qantas will ticket from provincial airports even though you fly AirNZ Link domestically. When they do this the international baggage limits apply.
However, Qantas doesn't fly to my destination.

afe66: At the end of the day... Pay for extra bags, ship by courier, or drive.

AirNZ won't allow an extra bag. Two bags max. I would drive but even breaking speed limits won't get me to Auckland in four hours, which is all the time I have between wrapping things up here and having to get to an appointment that can't be changed there.

afe66: I flew back from UK with single twenty odd kg bag and waited 2 months for the rest to arrive by sea.
You might be surprised how little you actually need day to day.
Probably too late now but ship the stuff you won't need a month or two before you leave  to minimise delay until it arrives after you leave.

Sea freight to Montreal only goes a couple of times a year, and not direct, unlike freight to/from the UK. The cheapest quote I got for volume that would fit into the back seat of a small car was $5800 and would take 8 months. To get anything there it has to go to Vancouver then be sent by rail right across Canada. I have already sent 1/3rd of it over, by courier post. Two 12kg boxes cost $516, which is a heck of a lot cheaper than shipping. Courier, with a four day delivery & tracked was only $60 per box more than standard parcel post.
The suitcases are carrying stuff that cannot be sent in parcels.

I'm not using Twitter for the time being. I shouldn't be here either, for that matter. I'm keeping a very low profile and, so far, my stalker has not discovered me here. Will tell you all about it when I am safely out of the country and away from the potential of physical harm.

Do you mean just buying two seats on the same flight? Will they let you do that?

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Courier it. I send 20kg bikes all round the country to third parties until I arrive.

The Air NZ website doesn't actually list a maximum number of bags, it merely lists pricing for 1,2, and 3+ bags with the surcharge for bags between 23 and 32kg.

Are they saying they won't actually take these?

Yes, that's what they are saying. The site also says, "Extra Bags are available on selected Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia operated flights providing the fare you have selected includes a checked baggage allowance. " This doesn't specify WHICH selected flights. Nice out for them eh?

My pick would be that that they decide not to do this on regional non jet flights that have limited luggage space.

Or get someone with an suv that wants to go to akl for a shopping trip to get your luggage up?

But I thought air nz should be able to help if you talk to someone high up with authority. Surely.

Talk to the koru channel. Some of them are very helpful above and beyond call of duty. But the other times I get someone who can't do anything sorry type
