I had heard that they maybe putting somethings behind a paywall with their new version. So maybe higher quality versions maybe behind it, which would make sense, as it would cost them more. 2015-16 is the period of the paywall.

Except it makes a profit/dividend which is paid to the government. 2012 paid governemnt 11 million dollars. A.

$11 million is chicken feed in the scheme of government spending.

So its probably not "such a terrible incompetent waste of taxpayers money" then.

A.

Depends what they could get for selling it vs the returns it is getting. If its only delivering a few % then yes a waste of taxpayers money.

Why would anyone pay for tvnz on demand... if your going to pay money a lightbox or netflix would be much better.. tvnz have missed the boat at this point,

They only get 10% of their funding from the govt.

They don't get even 10% anymore, not since National abolished the charter. The dividend they return to the govt is actually a pretty good return on an investment of SFA.

It has a lot of content, substantially more than lightbox, with quite a lot of content from 1 day after it has aired in the US.. But I don't think people will pay either, unless it is a cheap all you can eat subscription. I believe they initially did have a paywall on it when it was first released years ago, where you had to buy credits, which could be used per program.

I wont pay for anything unless it is decent 1080 or better. Last time I looked at tvnz on demand it was slightly better than sky's SD channels, which are somewhere around early 2000's real video.

I took a look around the website, and ... I'll continue to watch TV via alternative methods.
While they have a few shows I am interested in, diving in to each one it said I have to keep an eye out on Facebook for notices of when a show is upload (no thanks) and its a 2 day delay between USA release and being available.

While I sometimes "acquire" more TV than I can watch in a day, having to wait that extra 2 days for some shows is hard.
I can understand the reasons for needing to wait 2 days - guessing they have to download the file from the USA network, and then convert to add to website that can take time

They should hire some of the pirate uploaders. They typically have the torrents live about 5 minutes after the broadcast finishes. :-D

TV One on demand does not seem much better than You Tube when watched full screen on anything like a 27" iMac!!
