xpd: Must have some manufacture code/date somewhere, contact Lion Red and ask :)

Not that I could find (remember they're "swapper bottles" so the crate and bottles are recycled).

Bung: I remember a time when both Lion Red and Tui were brands that hardly anyone drank. If you took a crate of either to a party it would be left alone while anything else was available. I don't know if the recipes were changed over time but it has been interesting seeing how the brands were repositioned. IIRC Lion Red poured money into rugby league and Tui targeted Uni students.

I remember a time where I had never heard of Tui, but Lion Red has been around, and drunk, for as long as I can remember. I remember piles of cans (tin ones) at the bach over summer as a kid (we got the job of finding a big enough rock to flatten them so there was less rubbish to take away). There was also Leopard Lager, and DB draught and Export (oh, and Double Brown).

I wonder whether it's possible to tell the difference between one of these and a fresh Lion Red in a blind taste test?

Probably the one that makes you blind is the older one :)

From the Lion Red history page the tag line "measure of a man's thirst" would put the crate between 1987-1997. There's no mention of any change to the bottle label that came in 1986 to narrow it further.

I have a Leopard branded golf bag that I got on TM a few years ago - bought it purely for the branding reason. Dad used to drink it - thankfully he wasn't a Lion Red drinker.

We went like this. he went like that. I say "Where'd he go?" Hollywood says "Where'd WHO go?!"

Was looking into it actually with money probably going to charity.

Looks like you need to be licenced & registered so would need to see if one of the existing sellers on there could list it on behalf..
