You'll make @sbiddle angry debasing his favourite website like that.

Isn't 'fluffer' a job in the porn film industry?

I gave up when 15 second non-skippable ads played for a 45 second clip.

Same goes for the Herald.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Id prefer to read lost cat stories, cat rescued from tree by fireman, than most of what I read there.

Yesterday. Article on Skys new UI. GZers are quite critical of all things tech, its been discussed here. But the Stuff article read like it was a mass revolt. Artcile on a Jetstar flight. Yes they screwed up. But it read like a daily phenomena. And I wonder how much of both articles was factual, and how much focussed on a noisy few people who were quoted word for word in order to be breaking news. Cat stories preferred, thanks

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

It's actually worse than that... The media in general and particularly Stuff it seems, quote people word for word because it lets them publish known wrong, misleading or sensational information without having to apply an editorial or journalistic filter to it...

An upset passenger on a flight says the words "The cabin crew literally spat on my babys head!" and wahoo.... Headline written!

"It was the worst storm EVER SEEN here in Tinytown" Bang! Another headline.

In neither case do the headlines need to be accurate or even fact checked because the 'news site' was only reporting what the witnesses said.

And we, as the public (in general, not me!) lap this up and encourage them to do more of this.

Cheers - N

Great points Neil. Accurately print a quote, saves lying to to the readers! As the quote was truly said!

Literally the top 4 articles on Stuff right now have a quote as part of the headline. None to the level above, but sheesh...

Cheers - N

on the plus side - it's nice that national news is a missing cat, not mass murders.

The ironic thing is there are probably murders to report on.  They just choose the cat story.  Case in point last night during the Jakarta Bombing seige Story 1: Gemma Flyn stating she was "over the moon"; Story 2: Jakarta bombing.

Aftter seeing that I said to my wife, "we need to find another news website" - (they can use that in a headline if they like)

I saw this story on Stuff on Wednesday, and this story was the cover story on the Dominion Post on Thursday

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/a-league/75853681/wellington-phoenix-and-football-federation-australia-on-cusp-of-licence-agreement

Sounds good?

But, it's all speculation.

The club itself had released a Press release late Wednesday stating the license reports are premature

Unsurprisingly, I haven't seen a retraction. Probably because the original article was all just based on an "understanding".

So.

Time to change my default new website
Yahoo? Hmm, a quick check does show that is it a great news website.

In order, top to bottom (Cos the most important news features first)

Guest Drops Wedding Cake
David Bowie was Financially Astute        Not top news now, but newsworthy
Ad that looks like a full news article, for a Mitsi truck
Harry Potter tribuites for Alan Rickman, yep ok that's all good. Perhaps a direct article on Alan Rickman is more appropriate
Chrissy Teigens 40DD Boobs\
Donalds Trumps Gift to America

Ok, Im gonna stop, it goes on an on. Its not Newstainment its Tabloidtainment

Herald  is the pick of NZ news websites?  The TV news sites any good? (I can look, but I wont get a solid overall opinion from a "one-look", so asking others who use these a lot)
