chatterbox: I think I also read somewhere if reds are corked you need to change the cork at ?6 yrs otherwise it goes nasty?


Thre's no such a thing. If you remove the cork air will go in and the wine will start its process and degrade faster.

Once opened you can only drink it.

I had bottles of Martinborough Pinot Noir 2001 that were well drinkable around late 2012. Reds will last longer than white ones and you might want to check vintages because some hold better than others. Obviously don't waiting 20 years but a good red should last ten years if stored in ideal conditions.

I've also been told that sweeter white wines (i.e. greater sugar content) can cellar for quite some time.
